I know VERY little about cushions, other than they are one of the trickier cuts to buy. I''ve bought a GOG H&A modified square and LOVE it, but looking for a cushion. Both of the above are very close in specs and price.

If neither of these are great, what should I look for in table and depth. I''m going to buy sight unseen from one of the excellent online vendors here on PS.

Thanks!

Do you have pics?

if it''s one thing i learned about cushions is that you can''t judge them from just numbers, and a lot of it is how it looks to you.

very hard to judge by numbers but the second might be a bit shallow since 60% is on the bottom end of the standard range. could still be a gorgeous diamond but something to consider. The good news for a 60% depth stone is that it may face up bigger for its size so finding one that is cut well for optics could be quite a find. But pics are mandatory for cushions. I wish it were that easy!

I agree -- with cushion cuts, you really must see it in person. Make sure to give your jeweler a clear idea of not only the specs, but also its "presence". For example, my SO is having his jelewer look for cushions for my ering. I am so picky that I had him send a photo of the Tiffany Novo bc that''s the exact shape I want. The jeweler recently called and said he''d found one that looked very "delicate" which is so me. We''re traveling to see it next month. Not that I don''t have faith in SO, but like I said, you just have to see it in person to make sure it''s exactly what you want.

Good luck in your search! Let us know what happens!

That''s so tough about the pictures. I''ll have to find a way to maybe order both and then compare them.

What are the things to look for in a "great" cushion? I have so little experience with this cut, I''m in new territory for sure.

Hi 91,

Sadly paper tells little to nothing of the appearance or light performance of a cushion. Cushions take on many forms. The best you can ascertain on paper is polish, symmetry, table% and total% which communicate zilch. While photography is somewhat helpful in seeing facet structure/design it often doesn't communciate accurately brightness, contrast and fire aspects. Even reflector images, while also helpful are not end-all/be-all solutions all the time. What is most helpful is a visual comparison with known top stones with top of the line optics. Apparently you already have one in the Square H&A but to compare standard cushions with what you already have will always be an easy comparison. There are cushion brilliants and cushion modifieds that can hold their own to what you have but they are needles in haystacks.

Peace,
