An I is where the industry believe that the average person may begin to detect a touch of warmth, especially from the side. But there are many variables here such as the size of the diamond, shape, cut quality, grading lab and the colour perception of the viewer. But to try to answer your question assuming we are comparing GIA or AGS graded diamonds of similar size, shape and cut quality, you may see a slight difference with direct comparison, not so much individually probably, but this can vary according to the viewer etc. It may be best for you to try to view some diamonds with the similarities above, so you can see where your colour tolerances lie.

I wish I was just independently wealthy and stupid so I could just go to a mall store, buy something, and be blissfully ignorant.

I went to Shane Co and they showed me colors F - I. Without even knowing the grades That I was looking at, I could tell that I was a bit warm. Though, some people prefer a warmer color over a white. It's a personal decision. Just like, some people like flour and some people don't. They also showed me clarities VS1 through I2 with and without a loupe. That way I could figure out how sensitive I am about inclusions. They didn't have any VVS or above.

I went to an independant appraiser and she had a set of master diamonds. I was able to see the whole spectrum of D through M. It was really interesting.

Personally, I couldn't tell the difference, face up, of a G and E color. On it's side, sure I could, but who's looking at your diamond from the side?? Especially if it's mounted. At least, I couldn't.

It all depends on how well cut the diamond is. I would suggest anywhere that will let you look at several diamonds to compare for yourself. Everyone has different tolerances for diamonds.

I'm partial to Shane Co, because they treat me fantastic. But you can go anywhere you'd like as long as they let you see some loose diamonds. Get a feel for what you like.

Just a warning. Jewelry store lighting makes it almost impossible to check color differences. The only way I was able to tell was by going outside into natural light. Two jewelers did walk outside with me to test color. I color is borderline for me. I have seen some nice ones and some that were a little more tinted than I liked.

I just remembered something. You can ask Jonathan to check the color of his I stone. He has a colorimeter and can check and see if the stone is a high I, mid- I, or low I. That might make me feel better to know it falls in the mid to high range.

i love the F VS one too...that''s my vote!

You are paying too much for the VVS clarity. I am picky about clarity, personally, but my advice is to stay in the VS1-VS2 range. You''ll get a larger diamond while having a very clean diamond. VVS is paying for microscopic differences. I would also recommend WhiteFlash and Good Old Gold because they have a great deal of information on their stones as well as a much better trade-in policy.

This one is $3455 with wire and pricescope discounts:

$2411:

First thought...best thought.

Congrats!

Now wasn''t that more fun that going to the mall and plopping down you hard earned cash for a piece of frozen spit, as many say here?
