Why does the center look the way it does? Is it major light leakage?

That is the culet, think most if not all cushion cut has these large culet.

I don''t have an issue with the large culet, it is the pavilion as viewed through the table.
 
The general leakage under the table then?
 
That would be my guess. I''ll start another post as I''m trying to decide between 2 stones.
 
Could it be a fish eye?
 
it is not a fishey - it is pvilion leakage and adjacent areas of bstruction.
With a less bright background (a normal environment) the stone would have a rather dull center.

With even more backlight - eg in a microscope shot - the center will appeear very very bright.

yes, you are seeing the background lighting thru the diamond.
That one is not a very good one.
 
Thank you Garry and Karl. I thought that is the case but as I''m not very familiar with reading the ASET, I suspected leakage based on the IS.

yes, you are seeing the background lighting thru the diamond.
That one is not a very good one.
Ditto, not the culet but leakage.
