I''ve always wondered why they have not plugged in a length to width ratio in there formula? It is my humble opinion that the squareness of the princess cut diamond is one of the most important things to look for right off the bat. You can see this more readily than say a 1% difference in table size. Just a question.

Hm... rectangular princess cuts are not all the rage, but not ugly either.

I think that is ridiculous! I've seen plenty of rectangular princess stones that out shine square ones. Cut is most important. And also, once they are set, a slightly rectangular shape is not that noticeable.

I slightly prefer a slighty rectangular princess cut in some mounting styles over square stones. In other mountings or with short fingers, I might prefer square.

It seemed wrong to imply one shape is "better" than another when it comes to "squareness". It is preference and not a diamond cut quality feature. I did try to define what looks square from what does not seem to be square in order to give some guidance for the consumer.

It was a point of interest to me because in buying and selling diamonds every day I often encounter a slight premium for squares over the rectangular princess cuts. For that reason I think it is an important ratio to explain to an individual that is in the market for a diamond. That being said I do however agree with your statement about the shape being a personal preferance issue.
