Crystals in a 2.03 VS1 diamond

Hi - newbie here

Just a quick question for you all .. how likely would the crystal inclusions in a VS1 be black in colour?

I've seen the stone in real life but this whole diamond thing is so new to me I could not tell if I had spotted a black dot or if it was just the reflection. I will call the jeweller up on Monday but just wanted to know the likelihood before then.

Crystals can be any color: clear, garnet, black, yellow, etc. You have to ask the vendor what color, if you can't look at the diamond in person.

Also ask how eyeclean is it, and from what side / angle, because vendors define eyeclean different ways and you need to know is it matches yer definition. VS1 inclusions in 2 ct are going to be larger size than VS1 in a .5 or 1ct, so you are wise to question whether or not it's eyeclean.

You need to be eagle eyed to see VS1 inclusions even in a 2 carat diamond. Loupe the diamond in person and look again without magnification.

OP, still ask the questions before you buy. Rockdiamond and others on here have said, repeatedly, that even a VS1 grade-setting inclusion in the table area might be seen face-up without a loupe. (That stone's grade setter is probably not the table, I would wager.) Whether or not an inclusion can be seen depends on a lot of variables, including color of the inclusion and where it's positioned. Some inclusions blend invisibly face-up, but can be seen at some critical angle.

And the whole issue of eye-clean from the side is also not addressed in the clarity grading. If you don't want to see specks from the side, then you need the vendor to look at or have the cutter or wholesaler look at it and answer the question of how eyeclean is it from the side.

Personally, I don't need totally eye-clean. I tolerate discrete inclusions that hide very well, even if they are I1 grade. I rank cut, color, and size as more important than clarity.

Thank you for your replies.

I have contacted the jewellers and she has confirmed that it is eye clean from all angles. She also said that the white crystal on the outer crown was very difficult to see under the loupe (as well as the other inclusions). Looks like I can relax a little and am now one step closer to designing the perfect ring (wih my partners input of course!)

The jeweller is well known so I am quite comfortable in dealing with them but will have a second look to be sure.

Crystals can be clean under normal viewing conditions, but sometimes can be seen very clearly under bright conditions, even the colorless or near colorless crystals. Some conditions in which this might occur might be under bright lights like spotlights and under direct sunlight. Please note that these are NOT considered normal viewing conditions.
