received a diamond from bn yesterday, strong blue fluorescence (wanted to try it), and i really love the sparkle and color.

took out my IS and it looks pretty good, at least to these newbie eyes...

but as i was looking at it through the IS right there smack in the middle of the table, just below the surface, is this crystal - winking at me!

i mean, the thing is not buried, not to the side - it''s right there in the middle - i laughed!

so it catches the light and flashes back white - odd looking - but so funny in that the previous diamond i ordered (and returned) i had to really look for inclusions. this one is winking at me!

my eyesight isn''t that great, and so i saw nothing when i looked at it all day in the bright sun and under halogens, etc - but under 6x it''s pretty obvious. to me i guess it''s eye-clean...

i''m not a purity freak or anything, and like i say it was actually funny when i saw it - but are there any serious issues i should be concerned about?

i like things that are different (obviously, i ordered strong fluor) so i''m thinking i may keep it, but will take the weekend to keep looking at it and see what i feel. my girlfriend isn''t a purity freak either and is really laid back about things so i think it wouldn''t bother her - and i think she may get a laugh out of it, too.

i did get what i thought was a good price on it (i see why now!), but just wondered if there were any downsides beside resale value... also, the crystal seems to be fairly near the surface, but not breaking it. the rest of the stats are below.

thanks

A crystal should be fine and not an issue, not unusual to be able to see something in an SI clarity. It could be an issue if it bothers YOU however! It looks like a very well cut diamond, personally a little '' birthmark'' like that wouldn''t worry me as long as it didn''t stick out like a sore thumb, but it depends on you and what your GF might think of it.

thanks lorelei! i like the birthmark idea...

it bothered me a slight bit afterward - but my first reaction was to laugh! it was just so funny that it was right there smack in the middle! but it''s not that bad to me now... and actually, still a little funny. like a funny mistake you make in a relationship, and laugh about it afterward.

and i don''t think my gf will mind - she''s in mongolia and is really laid-back... and the material things aren''t that important to her. when i sent her to the robbins brothers site just to see what style of ring she might like she said ''oh my god... they''re all so beautiful... i don''t know...''

i like things that are unique, different. that''s why i went to mongolia last year on vacation! funny thing was i went there for an adventure - and found my future wife. actually, the best adventure ever i guess! hehehhehehee

many thanks for your help lorelei.

many thanks for your help lorelei.
The best things in life can happen in strange ways! A diamond birthmark can be very useful in fact, if you ever have to leave your diamond to be worked on, you will know at a glance it is yours! To me a little birthmark can personalize a diamond, and make it more unique definitely. It sounds like a really well cut stone, so if the inclusion doesn''t worry you, then you are set.

And you are most welcome!

That''s my dream stone! Beautifully cut, tons of fluorescence, and a white crystal under the table, like a baby diamond inside your diamond. Seriously, I''ve been looking for exactly that for years, but I''ve never found the right one--not enough fluorescence, or the inclusion''s black instead of white, or the cut''s not right. It sounds like you found my diamond, you lucky, lucky thing.

* quick threadjack*

Glitterata, it is good to see you!

You too, Lorelei!

Guliice, pls post pictures.

hahahahha! sorry about that glitterata!!!

but i have to say, when i look at it in just the right/flat light, the crystal looks like it''s black - is that a black crystal as opposed to a white? but when the light hits it, it glints white.

and maybe i can ask you, what does fluorescence do for you? is it just making this h color look a little more white, and of course the blue in direct sunlight? or does it add a bit more color in fire/scintillation/etc? not having seen a lot of diamonds, this one just seems to pop with color in the ''sparkles''... but like most have said in another thread of mine - that''s just a function of cut.

what do you think?

I love the way fluo makes the stone glow purple in sunlight. I don''t think it makes the stone sparkle more--the cut does that.

Glitterata, I seem to recall a post of yours from a long time ago, where you mentioned about how that would be your ideal diamond, I hope you find it one day!

cool, thanks so much...

and my crystal would be more of a black crystal - since i see it as black when it''s not reflecting light - would that be right?

and i will post pics hopefully later today - i have to figure out how to even do it! :)

thanks

you know what, gliterrata, maybe the better question is - i just pulled the diamond out - when i look at it with diffuse light behind it, it sparkles white. it''s so difficult to tell, because in some positions (without hard light) it looks as if it is white - then in others as if black - but i wonder if the black look is simply reflection/refraction like when the stars turn black in the pavillion. i don''t know...

maybe the only way i can really tell is if i put it under a microscope?

and if it''s any consolation this diamond only turns powder blue in sunlight, not purple...

gliterrata - would you like this diamond?

it was funny, when you first said i''ve been looking for exactly that for years'' i thought - then she should have it. your description is very specific, and i''m not sure if this stone matches everything - this one is more powder blue than purple in the fuor, but there are hints... and i''m not quite sure if it''s a black or white crystal - see my description above - there are places it looks white, and the black may just be from refraction - but truly, it felt right to ask you if you wanted it.

no pun intended, but i''m not married to this stone yet - it''s very nice - but really, if this matches what you''ve always wanted - you SHOULD have it. maybe i found it, so you could have it.

if you were interested, i would just return it to blue nile and you could buy it from them right away - and i''m sure we could call ahead and have them hold it for you once it cleared.

anyway, i''ve just been thinking about it all day. if you want it, it''s yours!

Oh, Guliice, that is so incredibly kind of you! And I won''t say I''m not tempted. But I don''t want to take your stone away from you. All I really meant to say was that I think your stone sounds absolutely wonderful, and to me its supposed flaws sound like advantages. No, I think that one is YOUR stone, not mine. It'' s a bit bigger than I''d been considering, and believe it or not I was looking for an I1, not an SI. Still, if you do decide to return it for other reasons than ME--like if you decide it isn''t clear enough for you after all--let me know. Maybe I''ll succumb to temptation.

Gulliice, that is an incredibly kind offer for Glitterata, it warms my heart!!!

it just feels right.

gliterrata. how are you?

hehehehhee

okay... i believe in intuition, i believe in creating the world around me. i believe i can have what i want - sometimes more strongly than others.

(first off i love stories, so pardon this long one...)

last sunday i knew i was going to find my special diamond. my intuition. i knew it would be .68/.69 ct (which was larger than the .62/.64 i had been looking at). two days later i was in the shower and something said ''go back to the site, the diamond is there''. and sure enough, there was a .68 - which i had looked at earlier and run the hca numbers, and marked it as a possibility. but right then, i knew this was it. the flour is what got me - something different. i like that.

i got the diamond in and the sparkle/cut was incredible - at least the best that these newbie eyes have seen. the crystal just under the table was a hoot for me (winking) and the blue cast in the sunlight was something very strange - and amazing. then i started asking about fluor, and my crystal, and you came along. as i said before when you said this sounds like the exact diamond you were looking for my first/gut reaction was - ''then she should have it. this isn''t mine.''

but the interesting thing is, that as more and more answers came in - including yours - the fluor only contributed to maybe upping the color of a stone, and of course the blue in sunlight. but those weren''t my priorities. cut was. and SPARKLE!

then another diamond presented itself to me. an aca. hmmmm... but it was in a color and clarity higher than i had been looking for - and of course a higher price! i never thought i would even look at a higher color/clarity.

so maybe in the end i found a special diamond, just not mine.

up until now i never thought i would look outside my ''budget''. maybe you never thought that this weekend your diamond may present itself to you.
1.gif
and of course, maybe this isn''t even the one.

i am going to try my aca, and i will be returning this strong blue flour. maybe you would like to try it? who knows, we may each create our dreams right in front of our own eyes? or maybe not. as my girlfriend/soon-to-be-fiancee in mongolia says - ''who knows?''

i probably won''t be physically returning it until the end of the week, but let me know if you''d like to coordinate something, so you can grab it once it arrives back at bn.

thanks!
