cracked diamond

Hi

I received a beautiful diamond ring on 8-17-07 from my boyfriend for an engagement ring. It was his Grandmother''s ring (about 10 years old). I have been admiring it for 4 days when I noticed that there is a crack in the side. The diamond is a round cut, approximately 1c. Very beautiful!!

I have been worried sick that I cracked it, but I don''t recall hitting it on anything besides everyday use (occasional bumps and bangs). Nothing hard...

If anyone has any information that would help, please let me know...

You''ll have to post a picture for us to determine whether it''s a ''crack'' or a feather, or possibly just a girdle reflection. See if you can take some good macro photos of it, and we''ll be able to assist you further.

Don''t panic as it could be various things you are noticing, it may not be a crack but a visible inclusion or reflection. It is best to let an expert check it out for you as unless it is something obvious like a girdle reflection, it is very difficult for us to say what you are seeing even with pics. A jeweller may not charge you for looking and as he can actually see the diamond may be able to put your mind at ease or advise where needed.
