Covid? Again.

Round 3 if so. Son brought it home after a dinner with friends. We told him it was on the uptick here and we tried so hard after he fell ill to not get it. My tests show negative but are they even accurate anymore?

So far: hot, cold, achey, headache, nausea, stuffed nose and phlegmy cough. I h a t e this virus.

Sorry for this news. Lots of the "usual" colds and flu going around. My colleague was down for week--not Covid but really sick nonetheless.

How does one rule in/out covid? The tests all seem to say negative these days. Maybe this is the flu. We know Covid is back with a vengeance in my community.

If all the testing is negative how do they determine/know Covid is back with a vengeance?

I think they go off hospitalizations? I'm not in contact with other folks but I'm reading online it's back. I'm not sure how others are faring with the tests to be honest.

Hospitalizations occur from influenza as well. I am not suggesting that newer strains aren't circulating, they are, but I am judicious about MSM reporting.

Are the PCR tests all coming back negative too? There are tests for the flu as well.

Yes, they are. They are old and I had to combine several tubes to get enough saline - not sure if that impacts efficacy. My understanding is the govt is getting rid of these tests as I haven't had them long.

I did not know there were test for flu too. Hmm. Wonder if they're available to me where I am. I'll see.

I feel like if you know someone who tested positive and you got sick from them, it’s safe to assume you have Covid, whatever the test says.

That's the thing. Their test was negative, but old.
Flu or covid I guess. They both suck.

My dog walker went on holiday and came back with Covid recently.

It definitely has not gone away completely!

That's what they got the stupid unwashed masses to fall for, so the economy could recover! :roll2: :doh::doh::doh::nono:

DH and I are as careful today as during the so-called "peak".
Even here in So. Cal. I'm usually the only customer in a store wearing a mask.
At least here I don't get side-eyed by the deplorables.

Sad.

I have been out and about once I had my first vaccine, and had Covid twice since then.

So you are using home tests? Are PCR tests still available at pharmacies. They were supposed to be more accurate than antigen tests, but I know know the current status. I guess the question is if you really want to know which it is. One way or the other, you're ill. Recovering is what's important.

I don't think it's getting any worse, thank goodness. These viruses sure knock you on your butt, especially as you age. Once upon a time, warmer weather meant flu's and colds were on the wane, but not any longer i guess. Son's been sick 2 weeks, but on the mend, slowly. Times like this, you remember your health is the most important thing.

I'm glad it's not getting worse. Take care of yourself, rest and recover. And be careful out there.

Thank you @Lookingagain! I stay home and isolate. No point in being a spreader. What is minor to one could kill another.
I'm astonished at how many fluids (and electolytes) these illnesses take.
 
HI:

My DH hasn't been sick in 10 years and we get to Cali on a long anticipated holiday, and now has a lousy cold. I really don't know what it is as we don't have any test kits. Lucky our accommodations are huge and he is isolating in his suite with a well appointed deck. Anyway.
