Why do diamonds sit at a seller for awhile? Looking at some of the diamonds on WF, they were graded 1-2 years ago and you think they would sell right away. If they have an old AGS grade, would it be worthwhile to ask to have it regraded for the latest and greatest specs?

Next, since many of you have already gone through this... Obviously, most sites don''t have the full Sarin, AGS, GIA, idealscope, etc etc posted on the webpage. Is my best bet for picking one of these sellerss to find 3-4 diamonds which suit my needs, order them up, and take them to an appraiser to have idealscope, sarin, etc done and pick the best/favorite? Seems like if you start picking out too many diamonds you will start killing yourself slowly in appraisal and shipping costs.

My feeling is this, if you're going to have to pay an appraiser to run all those tests, why not just buy from a vendor like GOG or WF who does them already? It's SO much easier!!!!

And no, I don't think I'd care to pay to have a new AGS certificate.

These are the crappy ones. No...actually, I have no idea. Yes, maybe they''ll regrade, by request. Since you''ve noted they''re old, try bargaining down, and let us know if that works.

Not only that, but most appraisers won''t even be able to give you an idealscope view (you could bring yours, but what do you need them for, for that), or sarin analysis. You could work with one of the fine Pricescope appraisers at a distance, too, but then...well...you''re working with them at a distance.

Where are you?

located 20mins north of Charlotte and am frequently in San Diego and the Bay Area.

some of the higher color/clarity stones take longer to sell. every stone will need just the right buyer but some will appeal to more people for one reason or another and the rest are left to sit and wait.

i wouldn''t. for the price of a new report, you could have it sent to an independent appraiser that has all the fancy gadgets and pics.

if that is how you would feel most comfortable picking a diamond, then yes. there were plenty of diamonds available in my range that did have all of that information, so i didn''t have to consider such measures but if you do, then go for it!

I largely agree.

We may have already talked about this, but I live near Charlotte, too! Anyway, I narrowed my search to GOG and WF because they clearly have the most infomation on the stones. It just boiled down to finding the right diamond, and it happened to be at GOG. I had an excellent experience dealing with them. But you can''t go wrong with either...just depends on who has the stone you want!!!

So if I decide to buy from WF or GOG, right now, there are a couple of diamonds that are very close to what I want. Is it better to wait and see what comes in (since time isn''t a huge factor) or buy soon? Next, how often and how many new diamonds are WF and GOG getting in with all the reports?

I wouldn''t wait if you see something you really like, good ones don''t last!

I think WF gets new in about every 6 weeks. GOG is continuous, and will look for your preferred specs if you give them.

Yes, I agree with Ellen. If they have what you want, get it! I was looking at a pair of diamonds for earrings a couple of weeks ago and they were newly listed. Within a day of the pictures being posted, one of the stones sold messing up my perfect pair! Fortunately I''ve found another pair. But waiting around can be dangerous depending on what you''re looking for. Plus, prices do go up eventually.

you *may* find a diamond with absolutely everything you want but you will generally have to wait....awhile. more than likely you settle on a few compromises that you are willing to make and there will be a stone that is as close to perfect as you can get.

right ds?

Ellen, haha! No!!! I had some stuff going on at home plus I just really want to get the ring setting decided first, so I am delaying the earring decision until I finish that project and hope my stones don''t sell!!!
