Hello everyone! I''ve come a long way since my post a couple months ago. I finally picked the diamond, which is a RB ACA .833 I SI1. The link is below.

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-1843968.htm

I also picked a simple solitaire setting after debating back and forth between a few. I also got alot of help from people on PS and I totally appreciate it. I finally decided on the Stuller Solstice 6 prong setting with a bombay shank (no peg).

So before I wire my balance to WF on Monday, I have a couple final small details I need to decide on. I have been telling myself there is no rush, and I''m thinking of this purchase as a lifelong buy. No upgrades (maybe in 20 years, but maybe not!), so everything has to be perfect. And that''s why I''ve given myself lots of time to think things through.

I was hoping for some advice/opinions on the questions currently roaming through my head.

1. Price difference between platinum and 14K WG for the solstice mount is $208 for the ering and $235. It doesn''t sound like a big difference, but I was just wondering which you all thought I should go with. I won''t be able to afford the wb right now, but I will eventually get it.

2. I currently wear a 2mm 14K white gold band. Can I continue to wear this with my ering when I get it? Or will it totally mess up the platinum? Should I wear only the ering for now?

3. Ring size - my 2mm band is size 4.75, but it gets pretty tight on me during the day (my fingers haven''t swelled up since pregnancy because it''s been the same since pre-pregnancy). I have a ring sizer (I know.. everyone laughs when they see it) and size 5 still feels tight at certain points of the day and size 5.5 feels loose. Should I just get the 5.5?

But all in all, I''m very thrilled about this purchase and definitely will be posting pictures when I get the ring. WF said 7-9 business days. I am still a couple weeks away, but I can''t even sleep sometimes just thinking about it. It''s become and obsessions.. when I do sleep I dream of diamonsd.. It can also be the pregnancy that causes the insomnia or the dreams, I guess, but shouldn''t I be dreaming of the baby? I feel so guilty sometimes....

Thanks in advance! I love you guys!

I prefer Pt to WG, less hassle no need to worry about replating the rhodium coat, better wear resistance of Pt and much less likelihood of prongs breaking.

Hi! Thanks for the quick resposne. Any thoughts on wearing the 14K band I currently have with the ering for a few months until I can save to buy the matching band?

I prefer platinum too. I don't think there is a problem with mixing metals on your finger.

I prefer to have a ring a little tight and secure rather than risk it flying off. But it has to be comfortable for you. I usually have to work a bit to get mine over my knuckle.

And it's a beautiful stone!!

Just a guess as I do not wear the ring and have yet to buy a wedding band for my gf.

I am thinking it will do more harm to the WG band than the Pt ring as the rhodium on the WG will be abraded off and the band becomes yellowish but the Pt ring may just gain some patina finish.

Hi Swingirl!

Thanks! It took me a while to find the perfect stone in my price range. I think that was the only stone around 80 points for the price, even on bluenile! So I was thrilled when WF said it was eye clean.

I prefer the ring to fit my finger perfectly, not too loose or tight. The 4.75 is tight because it leaves the band mark on my finger if I took it off. It doesn''t hurt but during some parts of the day, it looks squished on my finger. I can still easily take it off, but the marks bother me. I also read on PS that I should allow some space for the hotter seasons? Not sure if that''s true, but I live in Northern Cali (South San Francisco) and summer here is not that hot, probably 60''s - 80''s, maybe occassional 90''s, but not very common... but then again, it doesn''t get that cold either.

I don''t think I''m worried about doing harm to the band. LOL, I know it sounds harsh, but I only spent maybe $45 for it? and it was meant to be a temporary ring. I just don''t want it to mess up my ering!

And how come you didn''t join us for the last Bay Area Get Together??? We were in SF a few weekends ago. Hope you''ll join us next time!

Just to give my opinion as an experienced diamond ring wearer - from many years of wearing diamond rings daily, all of my solitaire diamond rings and others have white gold prongs and I have never had a problem either with bending or breakage, or needed to have them replated - plus I am hard on my rings!

Hi Lorelei! Thanks for your response! I love hearing from you. I have so much respect for all the help you give all the PSers, new and old. I love how active you are on this forum.

Anyway, I was wondering if you ever take your rings off. So I am assuming you don''t think I should pay the price difference to get platinum? My friend''s mom had a 4 prong solitaire that was like 3 carats and last August, she banged her hand against the car really hard by accident (she''s okay) and broke a prong and lost her diamond! Luckily it was insured, but that really scared me. I don''t think I can afford to buy insurance on my rings....

You are very kind, thank you so much!!!

I wear my melee eternity band from dawn till dusk and a 3.4ct solitaire most of the time also, only removing the rings if I have to do tough jobs, but most days they are on all the time. This is my wedding set which is all gold as this is my metal of preference. I am very active with my hands but I have learned to always be aware of my left hand ( as you do!) so that helps. I have been lucky enough to have been wearing diamonds for over 20 years now, especially solitaire settings and in all that time I have never had a problem ( hope I am not jinxing myself!) So gold prongs have stood the test of time for me beautifully, maybe I have been lucky too but I am very careful. Platinum isn't infallible either, although it is a tough metal. '

I hope this helps, I can only go by my personal experience as someone who has worn gold pronged rings for many years without incident, to let you know it can be done. What I would do is to express your concerns to WF with the metal, they will be able to give you their opinion and experiences and I bet that would help you!

As to insurance, regardless of what metal you choose, accidents can happen as you know, so I would really look into seeing if you can afford insurance for your precious peace of mind!

Happy Thursday! I wanted to give an update on what I decided. I finally wired the balance today. I decided to stay with the platinum route, being that the price difference wasn''t too much. I will just wait to get the matching Stuller band when I have the money, maybe next year. And if I can''t wear it with my WG band because the colors don''t match or whatever, I will just not wear my band and will wear the ering alone. Harsh decisions! LOL! Now I''m just waiting for the time to fly, waiting for that email from WF with the pics of the completed ring and the anticipated ship date. AHHHH! I''m going to go crazy playing the waiting game. I know I''ve already drove my husband crazy. Imagine hearing about diamonds and mounts at every meal, every commercial, right before falling asleep, waking up. I''ve been OBSESSED! This is almost as bad as waiting for my baby to come (due date is April 15th!).

I''ve been asking questions on PS since 11/14, and it took me almost 3 months to figure it all out. Thanks again for being super patient with me. I''m sure when you saw a post with my name, you rolled your eyes and thought "not this chick again". But I appreciate all the support and friendly comments/answers I''ve received. Truly.
