Hi all,
Thanks for all your support. I find myself once again, in another dilemma. After purchasing what I thought would be the perfect setting, it has been brought to my attention from a local jeweler here in Seattle that the only type of diamond that could fit in the setting I have is a Princess cut that is at least 5.2 x 5.2 (LW ratio). I''ve found that a quality diamond of with those dimensions will be at least 0.89 carats. The nice princess cut diamonds with those dimensions are all out if my budget .
I feel a bit let down because the jeweler I purchased the setting from in Texas said the setting could easily fit a round, asscher, or square cut diamond and could also easily fit one that is between 0.60 - 0.90 carats. This does not seem to be the case and now I''m stuck with shelling out at least an additional $500.00 to get that larger princess cut diamond - a diamond shape I didn''t even want to get my girlfriend to begin with. I much rather be able to purchase a round or asscher instead of the princess. I went ahead and purchased a diamond from Blue Nile with dimensions I thought would fit in my setting, only to find out it was too small, and I returned it last Friday.
Either way, I was wondering if anyone knew whether a jeweler has the ability to remake the prongs on a setting and if so, would this be advised or should I go back to the original jeweler and try to get an exchange? Getting an exchange on the ring setting is my last option as the jeweler is in Arlington Texas and I know she is going to fall in the love with the setting the minute she sees it. It''s also featured on Pearlmans #70PP13.
