My boyfriend and I have recently discussed engagement rings and I was looking on the internet trying to find a style I like. I came across this one, which I absolutely adore.
http://www.langantiques.com/products/item/10-1-4420

Although I love the idea that it is circa 1920s I'm thinking I might get a ring made to look like this with new diamonds (I would prefer a higher quality centre diamond and real sapphire accents)

My 2 questions are
1. excluding the cost of the centre stone, would this be a really expensive ring to make?
2. considering the centre stone is enveloped, what sort of specs should we be looking at?

I wasn't sure where else to ask these questions  I'm a newbie to these forums and hope I'm in the right place!

Thanks

A 1 carat I-K color (it's EGL they're loose with grading) antique cushion isn't hard to beat with one of the newer antique style cushions.

Here's my recommendation for a diamond H color AGS graded and great clarity: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/1.05-carat-h-vvs2-a-cut-beyond-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-67559.html THIS would definitely be my choice for antique style cushion. Great optics, good size and a lovely facet pattern. Alternate (and more expensive with E VS stats): http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/this-cut-beyond-cushion-diamond-has-been-reserved.-gid-15236.html The "A Cut Beyond" antique cushions are by far my favorites.

Setting, if you want the best possible quality: 3 thousand plus about in platinum for the setting. 3,500 isn't unlikely as the sapphires will be custom cut. I'd get in touch with Mark at Engagement Rings Direct. He can do Art Deco designs and has BOTH hand forged craftsmen AND CAD craftsmen in his bench. Those sapphires would be nicer if Mark does them too, they will be natural earthmined ones.

Here are some similar designs by Mark, so you can see examples of his work: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/royal-t-collection-pclid-16.html

Overall, I think you can beat the Lang's price and get a gorgeous ring to boot if you call ERD.

Thank you for your reply. We do live in Australia but I saw that Mark takes international orders. So we might email him and see what he can do for us.

Good call. 8)

I love that ring but I would recommend having it designed to allow a wedding band to be worn closer to the e-ring. I actually got a quote on making a setting very similar to that by Victor Canera and the price was over $5k! Besides Mark, I would check with Singlestone because they make beautiful reproduction settings, too.
