Does anyone have any input on buying a stone from Costco? I''ve been searching for 3 months and decided to check out the site. I saw this stone:

Funny you ask, I was browsing there about 2 weeks ago, it seems many of their diamonds are GIA and are very good quality. They are about 1-2K above what you can pay but choosing is quite easy, and most diamonds are quite nice. You can get a similar stone for less onm pricescope search, and save tax !!!

I don't have any experience with CostCo jewelry, but I did a PS search and came up with a few comparable stones for about $12000 (like this one). A simple platinum setting like that would run under $1500 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So you could potentially save by going through a PS vendor.

While Costco would be OK. I would go with an online vendor. That way their speciality is jewelry. You would have more setting options and the option to upgrade/change the stone at a later date.

I agree. Costco actually has some nice stones sometimes, but they are often priced a bit more than you would pay online and just don''t come with the service you get with a jeweler...

I might be in the minority here at Pricescope, but I for one have no problem with buying diamonds in simple settings at Costco if they give all the information like the listing you provided has; there are tradeoffs to consider when making your decision.

If you use the "Pricescope Your Diamond" search box at the top of this website, you''ll see that the vendors here are selling equivalent stones for around $13,500-13,900. Of course, those are loose stones; settings vary, but a simple tiffany solitaire can be had for around $500 (give or take).

So, you''re probably paying 600-1000 more than you need to(-); the positive is that it''s ready to go as is(+). Costco has a great return policy (+); so do reputable online jewelers and reputable B&Ms. Compared to B&M, you won''t be able to get the followup care that you would at a B&M (-), but it''s less expensive than a B&M (+). Unlike both B&M and an online jeweler, you have no choice in your setting (- ... though for some guys, this is a +, lol).

I''ve heard some very decent feedback re. Diamonds at Costco from a friend of my FI''s who recently made the big purchase there, and was pleasantly surprised. Somehow, I''d be skeptical about being able to purchase an ERing and a family sized package of M&M''s at the same place....

Do you know if Costco has a good upgrade policy, if any at all? That would make a difference to me...
