My MIL finally bought a car seat for her car. She kept asking me what brand to get so I told her evenflo (from suggestions on here) had good ratings (since I knew she would never want to buy a britax). Well, today Dh installed it and she bought a cosco similar to the link. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about their safety? I would hate to compromise it b/c she didn''t want to spend the money on a nicer one.

You expected your MIL to pay for her own carseat? Wow. I always purchased the car seats and gifted them to my parents and IL''s.

Not everyone can afford to do that, and I''m sure her MIL knows whether they can or not. I don''t think that is the issue.

Tacori, the reviews look good. And a quick browse around shows that even though it is a "cheap", it functions well and does what it should without any frills. Someone on this site even mentions that it is good for a grandma seat

Hey Tacori. I read up on Baby Bargains and the Cosco Scenera is their top pick for affordable car seats. It was rated a B+. They don''t recommend the Scenera Versa (bar-shield version of the seat) as it doesn''t have the same protection as the five-point harness. This version of Baby Bargains is not the most recent. I have the 7th edition and they are on the 8th I believe

We read this same review and purchased this seat for both MILs.

My DH has that seat in his truck, and I just bought another one for my day care provider. They aren''t the most padded, but for just running around, they''re great. Easy to get the kid in and out of, and light weight if you have to take them in and out of the car often.

I knew SOMEONE would bring that up! Thanks for not disappointing me PP! My ILs are well off and can easily afford a nice carseat. She in fact offered to buy one for her car (I did not ask or tell her to) but I was hoping she would pick a nice one. I don''t feel bad at ALL having her buy a carseat for her car. My DH does so much for them (painted their new house, tiled their bathrooms, patches holes, stained their deck, etc) so I figure it all evens out in the end.

Monkeypie, it is no frills for sure. The padding seams SO thin compared to my mom''s graco and my britax. Glad the reviews are good. I was actually shocked MIL chose it b/c this is the same woman who puts a small down comforter under her pack ''n play so DD will be more comfortable. She is usually very comfort orientated.

fiery and robbie, I just want to make sure DD is protected. Good to know about the Baby Bargains.

Mustang, thanks for your input. I doubt MIL will go on any long car rides with DD so as long as it is okay for infrequent short trips we''ll be set.

Tacori-Ignore, ignore, ignore! I think the Cosco has very good ratings overall. I wouldn''t worry about it.

Tacori,

I don't mean to threadjack, but which Britax do you have? Do you like it? We'll need to switch to a convertible soon and I'm looking at the Boulevard TSIP.

I also read this review and we purchased the Scenera to use for travel and in our tiny 2nd car on the rare occasions A rides in it. It is not nearly as big and padded as our Britax Blvd, which I prefer for everyday use, but the Scenera is well rated. It also fits in an airplane seat and is pretty light to carry through an airport.

NF and Kay thanks for your useful input.

Ebree, I have the roundabout and it is perfect for her. I like that it is smaller so it will be easier to travel with. Also it isn''t as high which makes it easier for a shortie like me to see over. Not sure how soon you need it but I think Feb. is when they have their big sale.
