I was so sad to learn of his passing. The facts aren't out there yet but lots of assumptions are. I feel for his friends and family - such potential ahead, now its all cut short.

If it is drug related --- when will people LEARN!?!?! Money, influence, freedom, temptation --- sometimes not such a good combination for a young person.

Strength be with those who knew and loved him

I just saw that. I have to confess that I really didn't know who he was, but it was certainly to young for him to die. It seems like another sad case of Hollywood destroying people. So sad.

While I feel sad for his friends and family, I can't help but feel it is a wake up call to many other young people out there. I don't watch GLEE and had no idea who he was till I read the article further.

Luv2sparkle- from the newspaper article I read he has battled drug addiction since he was a teenager before he started to act so Hollywood might have added more pressure but it was an issue that already existed.

agreed, if it was drug related, i dont think Hollywood had much to do with it... from USA today sounds like he started doing drugs at like age 14....

so sad!

So this is really sad and all, but Cory Monteith was thirty-one????? Who knew???? I thought he was like 22 or something.

That was one of my first thoughts!! When I saw the picture and realized he was the GLEE kid, I had to re-read everything because I thought for sure it was a typo and they meant 21!

I don't watch Glee but I was sad to hear of his passing. Addiction is a terrible thing. My stepdaughter is an alcoholic. She is 39 with 4 kids. I have traveled to AZ twice in the last year because she was in the hospital and in liver failure. She spent months recuperating and is back to work but is still drinking. It is a slippery slope to complete liver failure and death. I've come to accept the fact that she will die young.

Such a tragedy. It was in the back of my mind for most of last night.

Considering the situation from a professional AND personal POV, I have no idea what the Glee writers can do to wrap up his storyline. Such an unexpected departure can be written in as a death -- but how cruel would it be to expect Lea Michele, his real life girlfriend, to be a part of that acting situation?

Lots of speculation re: drugs. That being said, young people die from natural, but unusual causes, too. I hope, regardless of the autopsy results, it gives teenagers living with addiction the impetus to reach out for help.

So so sad.. I love him on Glee! He's such a cutie.. :( I can't believe this happened right after he was JUST self-committed to rehab :(

Oh Enerchi, I saw the topic heading as I scrolled through Hangout, and my heart dropped ;( .

Too young...and his poor fiancée - from wedding planning to a funeral. :(sad

WEre they engaged?? Even WORSE for her... Details should be coming forth soon I guess, as to cause of death.

I can't imagine how they'll explain this on the show. I mean, if they do write in he died, they have to tell "Rachel" on the show, and I think that would be incredibly insensitve and cruel to ask her to act that out, just for the benefit of the camera's.

(CNN) -- "Glee" star Cory Monteith died as a result of "a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol," the British Columbia Coroners Service said Tuesday.

Monteith, 31, was found dead Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room after he missed his checkout time.

Monteith spent time in rehab this year, checking into a drug addiction treatment facility in late March.

Oh wow I'm sad and sorry for his family but boy, just out of rehab and thinking somehow he could handle that mixture. It's so sad. Our bodies are stong generally, but in cases like this, they are also so fragile and just can't process that kind of crap!!

Please let someone learn from this lesson.

River Phoenix, Amy winehouse, John Belushi... Im blanking out on the many others but there are so many brilliant talents lost far too soon.

I was very much hoping it was going to be a non-self-inflicted COD. It's certainly happened before though - manage to kick the habit for a while, but when they fall off the wagon they use the same amount as before they quit. Without tolerance, it kills them. Far out, so sad.

From a medical POV, I'm really impressed by how quickly the Canadian officials have handled this case. I expected at least a few more days to pass for the toxicology results. They don't mess around with urgent cases up there!

so was i - i think everyone was kind of rooting for him, hoping that's not what it was...

I was listening to the news in my car and it was reported that overdoses from heroin have risen by 40% in the past 6 weeks in the area near where he was found ead. Local police fear that there is a really pure batch on the market, or that it has been cut with another drug (can'trecall name) and is catching users unaware. I suppose we will never know, but this may be what happened to Cory :blackeye:

grr, once again i posted a response that got deleted!

it's just a shame - i really do feel like so many people were rooting for him, and it sounded like he was clean. And a relapse took his life :/

They think it was cut with fentanyl

"Intravenous fentanyl is extensively used for anesthesia and analgesia, most often in operating rooms, intensive care units and in the prehospital medical setting. The concept of a general anesthetic is based upon a balance between an opioid and a hypnotic agent. Hence, fentanyl is mainly used for induction of anaesthesia alongside a hypnotic agent like propofol."

It really is sad and unfortunate. I enjoyed him a lot in Glee.
