The kitchen gadget thread made me remember one of my favorite kitchen toys from when I was younger...my mom had a great set of metal cookie cutters that also had an icing kit with all sorts of fun tips. This whole set got thrown out in her divorce, and I have NEVER seen anything like it in any kitchen sections I''ve been in (of course, I could just be blind). I''ve bought some plastic cookie cutters for my current baking needs, but would love to find a nice, classic metal set. Any ideas on where to find this?

Have you tried Michael''s or Factory Card and Party Outlet? I know I''ve seen sets of the metal ones at FC&PO (I live just outside Chicago, don''t know where you are or if they have one in your area) but you should check those options, or even Hobby Lobby.

I have a few metal ones with the tops outlined in colorful plastic for better gripping and I really like those, I have found them in our local Albertson''s grocery store in the baking aisle along with the rest of the kitchen utensils, etc. They are sold in pairs or separately.

I second Monarch''s post.

And, at Christmas time, nearly every walmart type store carries them in their baking goods aisle.

And, for your tips, you can usually find those in the cake decorating aisle (craft section) of just about any place. Wilton has a great starter set and a little book that shows you the basics.

Sabine, Crate & Barrel has a couple different sets available online...there''s a Year of Cookie Cutter set in a cute glass jar for $24.95, Winter Wonderland set for $24.95, and mini cookie cutter set for $7.95...all metal!

As someone mentioned--walmart often carries them and I also find them in the bulk food stores or specialty goods stores

This site has a huge selection (and they are copper to boot--won''t rust and look pretty ;-)

cookie cutters and more

i think also Sur La Table has some fun cookie cutters if you have one near you.

there are a few stores i have come across over the years (in small towns we are typically visiting on vacation) where they have a massive collection of cookie cutters, it''s so fun! there is this one big kitchen store in Napa that has a whole wall of them. so if you have any type of kitchen supply store near you (maybe not even fancy, just a kitchen supply store, or a bakers store), you might be able to find some there.

I love love love everything from King Arthur Flour. They have some great sets (not to mention really fun other stuff!)

I saw some basic cookie cutters at Target in the Christmas section.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I can''t wait to have fun baking this year!

Wilton makes the best cookie cutters.

Got any "antique" or flea market junk stores in your area? My mom had a set of metal cookie cutters too, and without any effort at all, I have been able to find six complete sets just like them for myself and my sisters!
