Hi there :wavey:

Just came across this loose stone for private sale and I am considering purchasing.

Dimensions are 8.72 x8.62 x 5.15

HSi2

Depth 59
Table 57
Crown 15%
Pavillion Depth 42%

Do not have culet details but it comes in at 1.0 on HCA - triple x & very good for light return.

Would love to hear your thoughts............ =)

You have to input the crown and pavilion angles to get a get HCA reading - what are those?

Hi MissGotRocks, I think I only have Crown and Pavilion percentages, not angles. I will check that out. Thank's for your help :wavey:

You are welcome. Using the percentages you have doesn't give you as accurate an HCA score. I assume with the percentages only listed that it is an EGL stone?

The certificate doesn't show, only percentages and yes it is an EGL stone - Tolkowsky cut. I wouldn't purchase without having it verified by an independent jeweller, being loose is a good thing makes it a lot easier.

Do the measurements help at all - 8.72 x 8.62 x 5.15?

Re: Considering this RB depending on what the experts say...

You would want to have the stone verified by an independent appraiser not jeweler. Those diameter measurements don't tell us much about the cut of the stone. It is not as tightly cut in diameter as some ideals - those two measurements could be closer in range but it doesn't mean that it's a poorly cut stone either.

I'm sure you've read the many threads here about EGL grading being off by up to several grades in terms of color and perhaps off in terms of clarity too. You just want to make sure that you know what you are buying and comparing apples to apples. EGL vs GIA/AGS is not apples to apples.

Good luck - let us know what you find out about the stone!

Ditto to MGR. The stone is likely J-K and I1 based on GIA standards. Do you have a loupe? I'd want to look at the inclusions carefully to be sure there isn't a feather breaking the surface or anything like that. The stone is really shallow. It would help if we had crown and pavilion angle. The stone is shallow and if it has a low crown angle, it will be more prone to chipping. What is the table percent?

Thank's DS for your input - the table percentage is 57. Even with my minimal knowledge I was concerned it was a bit shallow - after a bit more researching with the info that I have. Never having owned an Egl certed diamond I was a bit reluctant to purchase without physically seeing the diamond. I realise the grading is totally different to GIA/AGS, being a lot less stricter. Maybe I will stick to my GIA's to be on the safe side.

It would make a pendant though, don't you think :naughty:
