We are considering a G color Emerald which appears to have a great cut. It is a G color VVS2 stone, with table and depth numbers that seem to place it in the AGA 1B class. (I do not have actual sarin numbers to confirm the crown and pavilion numbers yet, but it looks really promising based on GIA table and depth numbers)

The issue is the Stong Flourescence with a G cut Emerald. I know that some flourescence can be a good thing on some lower color grades, but I am unsure of the impact of "strong" flourescence on this diamond.

Assuming that this is not cloudy or oily looking, is this strong flourescence a big negative on an otherwise lovely stone? Will this have a blue hue in outdoors settings, which is accentuated by the big steps of an emerald cut?

it will have an effect. whether or not your eyes perceive it in the different lighting conditions is hard to say. i like the effect that strong fluorescence gives and don't see it as negative at all. if you notice anything about the fluor it will be in full sunlight and definitely blacklight conditions.

Thanks for the information in that GIA study!

Sounds like this could be a positive thing in many cases. Less likely to be a strong negative, unless it is one of the few oily or cloudy "strong flouro" specimens.

Meanwhile I just got the crown height on this stone, and based on the numbers this really seems like it is a 1A or 1B class stone, with a big discount for the strong blue....Hmmmmm??

You need to ask the vendor's opinion on whether it will have a blue tint in the sun which would bother me...Iwas considering a H with strong blue for a pendant and Mark said it was a tad blue for his taste...I trusted him and trusted his opinion b/c I couldn't see it...but try to see it or ask...

Defender,
I hope your G with Strong Blue Fluoro is half as gorgeous as my F. As long as you see no oiliness or milkiness to your stone, which, as I understand it happens 2% of the time, I think you''ll be blown away by your Emerald Cut! I got to see mine last Friday in full sunlight and it is gorgeous. Please let us know what you think once you see it. I am definitely a convert!
