Well, we''re in Portland Oregon so visiting the storefront is out of the question!
Might I suggest Wink of www.winkjones.com in Boise, Idaho if you aren''t adverse to driving a little? He carries gorgeous Infinity princess cut stones and knows how to pick the cleanest I1 stones.

Good point Chrono. As I am not sure of my geography

, if driving to Wink would be an option, then that could be an excellent suggestion for the OP! Especially as he can find clean and well cut I1''s.

The I1 he found for me is better than most SIs I have seen

Wink Jones sounds wonderful! Unfortunately, our work schedules make driving six hours to and back an impossibility.

I called the jeweler today and asked to see some Si1 and Si2 stones that are near colorless. (A few steps down from my E stone)

I figure that I need to at least look at them so I can be sure that I have the stone I want. (I don''t plan on upgradng for another ten years, unless we win the lotto.)

I don''t know if I can get my old ring back. I feel like saying to the jeweler, "Please don''t take advantage of me, I''m not completely ignorant!!"

He is going to look for some stones and have them sent in if they fall into my budget
(He was quick to point out they would be more expensive.)

iii yiiii yiiii, I wish this jeweler would appreciate the fact that I am trying to be an "educated consumer."

I will let you know what he says.

Will you at least consider giving Wink a call? He bends backwards for every customer and will even possibly work with you (late hours or maybe even weekends). If not, I''m sorry that it''s not going to work for you.

In my experience only really good jewelers appreciate an educated consumer. Like our PS vendors, and a few others I have met. Bad ones, or mediocre ones do NOT appreciate an educated consumer and will try to ridicule their knowledge, confuse them, and take advantage of them. Just my experience.

Don''t tell someone not to take advantage of you. It should be a given. If it''s not, you shouldn''t give them your business.

Poor Kathleenmv, who suggested Wink a couple of posts before Chrono but got zero credit for it.

Well, my saga continues.

I called the b & m store and asked them if I could see some Si1 H or J colored princess cuts. They are checking to see what''s available and then they will order in what I want to see.

I also went to Kay Jewelers to check out their "Leo Cut" and check out some Si1''s. I did their Leo challenge and failed, I did not pick out the Leo cut! After 40 minutes of looking though, I could finally see that the cut was sharper.

Here''s what''s weird...none of the stones I looked at today made my heart go pitter patter like my I1.

My I1 is peppered with black spots that I can see when I look at the stone through its sides. It is E color...which I am loving.

So now I am wondering if it is bad to keep this ring with the peppered spots. (I cannot see them from the top unless I am eye to eye with the stone, then I might see one or two in the right light.)

I am really feeling torn.

Hi Ava,
I have to agree with others - once you get to see a true amazing ideal cut round from a respected vendor, I think you may forget your I1 pretty quickly!
There''s nothing wrong with getting an i1 if thats what your budget is and you''re happy - I was considering a couple myself recently. But if you have a great vendor to work with, you may even be able to find an I1 that is eye clean - or at least clear inclusions.
I may be wrong, but perhaps you sound like you''re "settling" for this stone?

I know you said you can''t go see Wink due to work, but as Chrono suggested he could be happy to work with you? And if you want an education, thats a great place to go!
It sounds like you''re current jeweler is a bit of a jerk..

arjunajane,
Ava is looking for princess cuts, not rounds. However, I agree that it sounds like she''s trying to convince herself that maybe the I1 stone she has isn''t so bad. I believe that once she has seen a well cut diamond (Leos don''t count as well cut to me, sorry), she won''t believe that she even considered this diamond. When I was uneducated, every diamond looked great to me. After I saw my first AGS0, I then realized how much MORE beautiful an ideal cut stone is and that its sparkle really helps mask body colour and inclusions.

Whoops! sorry, I knew that, but forgot in myn haste to post.

In that case, substitute that part for an AGS0 princess!

Ava,

Did you ask the jeweler if you could get your old ring back? If you can then you can start over someplace else. I made a hugh mistake and traded my old ering in for a 1 ct at Kays then got out side and it had a huge line across the top. i went back and they still had my trade in in the safe and only send them out 1 time a week. So ask if they still have it. Then start over.

I can tell you I opted for a .70ct Ideal G color ring instead but it was almost the same size and so beautful and I have no squals over that! You really at this point need to do what is right for you and if the I1 isn''t a problem for you then wear it with love. But that being said if it didn''t bother you then you would not be posting here. i am sure that it is hard to make you husband feel you don''t appreciate what you got but you have to wear it. He will get over it later! Look at your option now before it is too late to change! Good luck

Thanks, Gwendoyln! No worries, Lorelei!

I really agree with Wen101''s post. If you were truly sure, you probably wouldn''t have posted here. And I know it''s hard when your husband just wants you to choose a stone/ring and be done with it. My husband was less than excited about the whole process. But if we were looking at big screens or snowmobiles or something, he would''ve been singing a different tune.

Anyway...Take your time think about your options. Maybe see if your husband might be open to seeing something from Wink with the assurance of 100% money-back, etc. And Wink does have beautifully cut eye-clean I1s. I used to own one from him!

Best of luck to you!!

Welcome to Pricescope, I am in Portland too. I would try a jewelry store named Smith and Bevill, on SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy.The owner is very nice and honest. He also is very knowledgeable on diamonds. He carries AGS ideal cut diamonds and the Hearts on Fire diamonds. I would stop by and see what he has on hand. He can order in any diamonds you want. Since this is a brick and mortar store his prices will reflect that. I bought my engagement ring from Nice Ice which is now in Bainbridge Island west of Seattle. Todd Gray has a store there and also sells his diamonds online also. My wife gets tons of compliments every time she wears it. Big secret to share that the best cut diamonds are priced the same as the poorer cut lower color lower clarity diamonds found in the shopping malls. Don''t settle for something you don''t really love. Most people are afraid of buying diamonds thru the internet for the first time. It is easy and really worry free and you can get really beautiful diamonds from the Pricescope venders here. I would try to get your husband up to speed about this. Just stay away from e bay. Try looking at White Flash web site too. They carry AGS princess zero cut which is the best. Their smaller ACA rounds make Excellent earrings for B-days and anniversery gifts just to put ideas in your head! Keep looking and don''t settle unless you absolutely thrilled.

Ava, please go see someone I personally know and tell her that one of her best customers in San Diego referred you...Her name is Lois Hindell and she works at Ben Bridge in Washington Square (Tigard, OR) and the shop number is: 503-620-8452. If you tell me you will definitely go see her, I can call her and let her know to take time to help you, but call first and see what hours she''s working. Yes the mall stores can be more expensive but my now husband bought me a stunning 5 stone ring of their Signature diamonds many years ago and it is one of the most amazing rings - white white, incredible brilliance and scintillation and I always get a lot of compliments on it. Lois can help you find a great stone in your price range, and she''s very nice/fun to work with. I highly recommend her... You can do way better than a "pepper stone"!

You guys are so great. Thank you for all your suggestions.

Surfgirl, I would love to visit your jeweler in Tigard, but to get a decent diamond in my price range, I need to either trade in my ring at the jeweler I bought it from (It as not Ben Bridge) OR purchase a diamond off the Internet at a more reasonable price (an idea I haven''t sold my husband on yet.)

My jeweler who sold me the peppered stone (I guess he has a don''t ask/don''t tell policy) was suppose to call me today about getting in some other si1''s and si 2''s to look at...but he didn''t. (Shame on him!)

I will keep you posted on my next step.
