The cut is graded as excellent but it's showing Poor on the HCA scale (5.0). I have input into the HCA other diamonds who have a cut rating of Very good or some that are good that have a lower HCA scale then this one. How can an excellent cut diamond score worse than a very good cut. I can understand two excellent grade cut diamonds scoring differently on the HCA because of variance (one barely making excellent vs the other almost making idea)l, but I can't understand how a very good can score better than an excellent.

Can anyone advise on if this is just a bad stone or if I'm not using the calculator or metrics correctly. Price of stone is around 14k.

I have seen what you are talking about happen. A few very good stones rate well (under 2) on the HCA.

This stone that you have picked is not a well cut stone. Its deep and does not have complimentary crown/pavilion angles.

The excellent cut range is very board and covers stones that will still have leakage. HCA weeds these out for you.

If you can you get an idealscope image of this stone you will probably be able to see the leakage.
