Hello All,

At time of original post I was looking to upgrade my 1.01 H/SI1 princess cut to a 2 ct stone. After reading all of your posts and viewing all of the beautiful rings etc. I started to sway a little towards the cushion cut. I really like both stones - so whatever is of better quality I will go with. Below listed are the two diamonds I came across that seemed to be of good quality - now I could be off ??? - being new at all this - lol. Maybe they are not so great after all. I am hoping you all will let me know. So please do not hestiate to advise as I can use all the info that I can get.

Princess cut
2.02 ct
Premium cut
G color / VS2
GIA cert
depth 74.1%
table 66%
polish/symmetry - VG/VG
girdle - slightly thick
Flourescence - none
6.82 X 6.71 X 4.97
L/W ratio - 1.02
Asking price $13,970.00

Cushion cut
2.03 ct
Cut - not rated as they said cushions are a matter of individual preference and there are no real proportions to follow. I know the L/W ration was around 1.02 which is fine - I think?? Just more square then rectangular.
H color / VS1
depth 67 %
table 54%
girdle - medium
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Good
No Flourescence
Culet - very small
Asking price $13,450.00

Please give feedback - either positve or negative. If something does not look right.

Thanks, Newbie627

Hi newbie,

They both seem to definitely have potential from the stats, no red flags as far as fancies go. But that's about all we can say with no pics or ASET, etc.

Have you found these online, or in a store?

Hello Ellen

Princess I found online. The cushion I have not seen, Mark from ERD in having it shipped for me to view in person. He is sending it to a local appraiser and we will look at it together. There supposibly is no other info other then the GIA report available. This is the reason I am having the stones sent to a local gem appraiser for view. Hopefully he has the necessary tools get add''l information to make me feel more comfortable.

Will keep you all posted.

If you''re having both stones sent in to view, that''s great! You''ll get the whole skinny on them from the appraiser, and you get to see them up close and personal. My advice, barring any real negatives from the IA, is go with what makes your heart go pitter patter!

I''ll be anxious to hear what you think.

Hello - me again....

I just came back from viewing the 2.03 cushion. The stone was beautiful, but I was disappointed with how small it looked???? It looked like a 1.5 carat vs a 2.00 to me. I had the appraiser even put it in a temp setting which helped a little but still seemed smaller then I thought a 2 carat would look like. The appraiser had nothing but good things to say about the diamond - he did mention that the depth was high @ 67....something about it being cut deep. - but said it was normal for the Old mine typed cushions and not a bad thing for this particular diamond. He loved the stone - but did agree that it looked small for a 2 carat stone in comparison to other 2 carat type stones. Does that mean there is lost weight on the bottom of the stone. Meaning am I paying for a 2 carat that looks like a 1.5 carat? Spoke with Mark who said I can go with a highter L/W ratio but I might be giving up some of the brilliance/sparkle. The ring I looked at today was a 1.06 L/W ratio. The dimensions are 7.46 X 7.03 X 4.71.

I may take a ride over to his office next week to look at it again with other stones and compare. If anyone has any thoughts on this - please feel free to share. Maybe I shold be looking for a different cut diamond- maybe radiant perhaps?

PS - Have not seen the princess and don''t know that I will as I would like to stay with Mark and the princess was from another vendor.
