Hey all, I just wanted to start off by saying this forum is very educational I learned a lot from you all!

I have narrowed it down to two diamonds that I may purchase.

The setting is a Verragio from whiteflash.

I am open to all constructive criticism about the diamond and the setting. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you all very much!

Both diamonds cost about 9,000 dollars total after all fees.

Okay. So I know you said you want opinions on the diamonds, not the setting but...

Have you or the wearer SEEN Veragio rings in person? Because if not... I really recommend you do so. Why? They look much better on the web than in real life, and in my opinion, I don't find that they are worth the money.

I would reconsider the setting choice.

Thank you very much for your input. I have seen some of their settings in person, it's a choice my girlfriend liked. It's not a 100 percent chosen but I personally think the setting is too busy. Therefore, the main thing she is looking for is a cushion halo with a twist and some of the intricate work underneath the table. A custom setting is also being considered.

For that price, I would MUCH rather have a WF custom setting. Just an FYI. Let me see if I can find any nicer settings.

I'd do this setting design: http://www.tacori.com/jewelry/jewelry-collections/petitecrescent/ht2549cu75.html but through WF. Have them omit any of the pave and open work on the shank in the profile (basket is fine) and it will meet the copyright requirement of a 20% change.

It will be much cheaper through WF, tacori's MSRP is inflated on their site. That setting is listed for 6600 elsewhere. Still ridiculously high, but 25% less than listed on Tacori.

Also please link to the diamonds. We need the idealscope images and everything else. Put them on hold first though. Okay?

Thanks so much for the input Gypsy. My broker will send me the info asap!

Here are the images, happy holidays!

This is for the 1.30 which I think i'm leaning towards. The 1.33 pictures are in the works.

Thanks for the help!

that looks terrible.

Oh my, not good at all. I agree, there looks to be quite a bit of leakage. I'm not a fan of this diamond at all.

The HCA score for the diamond pictured (1.30) above is 5.0

What are the stats you are looking for in a diamond (clarity, price, carat) and what is your budget? We can help you find a MUCH better stone!

The 1.33 scores 5.6 on this HCA, so it will also be a dud!

Thank you all for the suggestions and honest feedback. There is one more diamond I have a question about. I'm sorry i'm still new at this, thanks for pointing out the problems with the other diamond. I am getting these from friend's of jewelers. Maybe they're not as experienced as I thought.

I am reserved about purchasing online, but will consider it depending on what you think of this stone. I'm looking for stats similar to those on the previous GIA cert. Brilliant Rount 1.25-1.55 H VVS2 excellent excellent excellent.

The jeweler also said that the ring shines in person, is it possible the aset/idealscope images aren't taken properly?

Thanks all very much!

Horrible cut.
Tons of leakage.
NEVER buy diamonds from so-called friends.
We see here on PS again and again terrible diamonds people get from 'friends' in the industry.

Here's how to pick out a well cut round.
First, only consider diamonds graded by GIA or AGS - many other labs lie about color, clarity and cut grades.

Next, enter 4 numbers from grading report into HCA: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca
Reject rounds scoring OVER 2.0.
Get an ideal scope pic on those scoring under 2.0 ... http://ideal-scope.com/?Ref=pricescope
Compare to this chart. http://ideal-scope.com/reference-chart-ideal-scope-images/

Note in the excellent rounds in the chart above the pink under the table looks similar to the pink around the table.
... and notice both you posted are very dark under the table ... that's light leaking out the bottom of the diamond instead of being returned back out the top and to your eyes.

Kenny,

Thank you very much for the reply. It was very informative. Is there any way to weed out these dull diamonds through tools like on the price scope buying page?

Thank you very much for your effort, may I ask how you were able to get these diamonds selected? Is there anything I can specifically search for or is it just based off HCA/Idealscope images?
