I think the only problem with the one Gypsy bought is the funky hemline. Well that, and I don't know many people who could pull off pumpkin orange (I can't!) but I think your MOH dress sounds lovely. Do you have pics posted anywhere?
No, it's not made yet! We have the fabric and my mom and cousin are waiting to be in the same place at once to whip it up. I'll definitely post pics after the wedding, but that will be too late for our Gypsy lady
7.gif
It's much more reddish... definitely BURNT orange, as opposed to pumpkin.

I agree that the main problem really is the hem, and if you know anyone that sews, Gypsy, that certainly wouldn't be too difficult to alter.

Hmm, I must have lost it too. I saw that picture yesterday and thought "Wo, that''s a pretty dress! Now where is the ugly dress she is talking about?". I saw it again today and almost gagged on the tail. At my height though, it may work as a floor length dress with a train
9.gif

I have to say, I love the color. My sister (MOH) looks great on those kind of colors.

Confession...

I was REALLY TACKY at the bridal salon today.

One of my bridemaids is a size 18 and the other a size zero. Well it is apparently going to cost an extra $40 for the larger dress and $25 for the smaller dress as she is 5''7". Well me in my usually open mouth and think later style says..."well $hit, can you just comp me for all of the fabric we saved on the size zero instead of gauging us another $65 bucks?"

23.gif
Thought I was going to have to peel my MOH off the ceiling.

Oh well, no harm no foul.

LOL!!!!! Don''t you wish this is how things worked?!?!!? Anytime you add something like bigger size, the word wedding, etc. to something....it adds on a 300% premium! You gotta love it!

It''s craziness, that is why I am ordering flowers for an family reunion or some other event and not a wedding. It''s dishonest I know but it is cheaper I''m sure!!!!! ei ei ei...

IWPO, how do you do it? FI insists on telling every vendor that we are planning for a graduation party, but I''m horrible at lying
8.gif
Wouldn''t it feel strange asking for decoration of the gazebo for a graduation?

I wish the dresses were priced like you said! When my mom and I were dress shopping, she was grumbling about how I''m so tiny that they should give us a discount
5.gif
Oh, how I wish...

I plan on lying about what my flowers are for. Maybe just a party or a vow renewal, or a anniversary party? Heck, just a party? Perhaps even the venue too. Basically, anywhere I can get away with it.

Yeah, I can see regretting that one.
3.gif

But how good of a sense of humor does your MOH have? Perhaps she deserves a little practical joke?

Yeah. I''m glad everyone got a kick out of it.

MOH has a sense of humor but DID think I lost it when I told her.

I think musey, your dresses sound lovely. It''s the orange satin and the tail that are the issue. The rest is quite flattering: straight neckline, dropped waist with a definition band at waist, and an a-line skirt... two peices as well. So.... overall, very nice.

Oh man iwanna, that''s not tacky, just tart. We like tart... and you made me chuckle.

iluvcarats... I LOVE THAT PIC! GREAT material for future blackmail.

Guys, that''s my MOH''s dress.

Really musey?

ETA: ditto Doodle, Ped-egss are INCREDIBLE. I just got mine last weekend, and I don''t know why I waited so long!!!

Are they seriously that good? I saw one advertised last night but could not bring myself to fork out $90

Gypsy The dress could have been worse ;) with a little hemming it could be decent

My PedEgg was $9.99.

$90?! I wouldn't do it either! Although, I might actually, my feet are BAD. Everything else I've tried has done NOTHING. Pumice stone? My foot was taking chunks out of IT, instead of the other way around. Everything else...seriously lacking. I can't tell you how many feet scrubber things my feet have destroyed.

ahahhaah

the 15$ was worth the laugh you will have years from now thinking back to this moment!

hell it was worth the laugh i just had!

I googled US prices and saw that

massive difference so I figure I will just wait until they get cheaper here or when I get to the US they kinda look cool :).

Deelight-- if it wasn''t orange satin (honestly when I bid on it I thought it was chiffon or georgette for some reason-- so matte orange), and had a straight hem it would be lovely.

One thing that occurred to me. Bridesmaids dresses have a lower standard of what''s "not bad" than any other type of dress. You know... "that''s not bad for a bridesmaid dress." But think about it if you saw someone wearing that that exact dress IN THAT COLOR (even with the hem straight) on someone at a party for New Years Eve-- what would you think? Would you think "not bad"... or "what was she thinking?"

I work hard for my money, and refuse to be exploited by a vendor due to the name of an occasion. No harm no foul.

I see nothing wrong with keeping it a secret that it''s a wedding, but I''m wondering the logistics of it... other than flowers, what other vendor could you lie to about that? And what kind of price advantage do you think you gained by doing so? I''m really curious since I''m all about saving money someday when I get married.

Well one thing you can do is when you call around for reception venues you can say it's for a marriage anniversary party instead of a wedding to see if their pricing is different than their wedding pricing, and if it is... you can use that to negotiate the prices on the wedding event down. It may be work, it may not.

Cakes, well... if you want to do a small cake for the cutting you can use the anniversary excuse as well, and then do sheet cakes for the rest of the guests. Bakers will allow this for weddings too so it may not save you anything.

A good example of bridal extra charges is weddingpaperdivas.com for invites. Now I'm using them for the rehearsal dinner invites and a few of the ones I like are the same pattern as thier bridal invites. BUT... the rehearsal and shower versions cost like 10 to 20 cents less each. Hmm....

The point is... most places tack a PITA charge for dealing with brides. Sometimes rightly so. Brides tend to be obsessive about details, time consuming to deal with, and emotional instead of rational. I know this is the case with me at times. Whereas someone planning a different type of party... not so much.

Bridal Bargains is a good read if you are at the start of your wedding planning.

Also, some PSers have bought just flat out AMAZING BM dresses in white and used them as wedding gowns. Just flat out amazing dresses. MMM is a prime example of a PS bride who went this route. Here's her thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/dress-is-in-pictures.85031/

Yes, I have definitely been psyching myself up for choosing a bridesmaid dress. I am not engaged, so I don''t want to give the impression that I''m shopping, but I''ve been in so many weddings that I know how much those dresses can cost! I know that when I am actually engaged, I''ll be tempted by all those lovely dresses, but if I keep telling myself now that it''s just a one day dress and I honestly can''t remember any dress that stood out in the 25 weddings I''ve attended, and I refuse to pay more than I should... maybe I''ll keep the cost down when the time comes, HA!

One thing that occurred to me. Bridesmaids dresses have a lower standard of what's 'not bad' than any other type of dress. You know... 'that's not bad for a bridesmaid dress.' But think about it if you saw someone wearing that that exact dress IN THAT COLOR (even with the hem straight) on someone at a party for New Years Eve-- what would you think? Would you think 'not bad'... or 'what was she thinking?'

On my screen it is coming up a burnished orange colour, quite dark I am assuming it is much brighter in real life? Satin is a really unforgiving fabric, so the person wearing it would have to be really fit, though to me again it looked chiffony (maybe there is something wrong with my monitor :P).

Having that hemline straightened would improve that dress dramatically, if I saw someone wearing it ummm I guess again it would depend on the person's colouring and physique, so a case-by-case basis I could think of a couple of people who could pull it off.

I do agree I think most people have a lower standard of what is okay for a BM dress I have worn some shockers one was a pink taffeta (the 80's
31.gif
I was seven and I thought I looked amazing) and the other was shiny red satin (it was meant to be matte cherry red) granted the the seamstress stuffed those dresses up she made them using the material inside out
23.gif
,though BM dresses as a whole seem to be getting better :) thankfully.

I showed the dress to FI, and he immediately said "what''s with the tail and the color?". Even HE caught the flaws already, when it took me an entire night of sleep!

Well, I guess my insane moment turned out not to be so insane. Although Nordstrom said they wouldn''t ship until nearly a month after the wedding, I received one of them today already.
36.gif

I don''t know that they will be a good substitute for what we already have, but at least we may get them in time and if they work, we will have saved $900. I do that deal. Sometimes it pays to be a little insane.
