to recap, here are the 2 previous threads:

SMTR thread
1st concern on the setting

i received my e-ring in March, and it is now November. Over the past 9 months of wearing this ring every day, the pears are still bothering me. i really have given the side stones a chance! not only this, the knife edge shank has started to bother me in terms of comfort. As much as i love love love this ring, i really feel that round side stones and a flatter and rounded shank would be the way to go for me in the long run.

DF finally agreed with me on changing the setting!

i really love the proportions of this martin flyer 3-stone ring (please disregard the wedding band). the size ratio really makes the middle stone pop which makes the whole look LESS "marquis"-like.

what do you think???

please share your opinions!! thanks so much in advance!

try again.....

I loved your first Vatche three stone, but I completely understand with the knife edge not being comfortable. This martin flyer three stone ring, looks lovely, although do you want two prongs on the outside holding the sidestones? or one to look more like a fat pear?

my current ring again...

as you can see the knife edge sticks out a lot on the side causing discomfort ....

last one for now....

D&T, i think i will want to go for round sidestones.

by the way, my wedding band is going to be the Tiffany style shared prong eternity with open baskets, custom made to approx 2.8mm in width (20 x 0.07-0.08ct stones = approx 1.6ctw).

I would love to know if anyone has a RB center stone with smaller RB sides for visual references...

also, would 0.25ct or 0.3ct be more appropriate for an 1.72ct center stone?

measurement-wise, my center stone measures: 7.69mm x7.73mm , so would a 4mm side stone be appropriate? but not too small that would make them look like accents?

I really like that Flyer ring! I think it''ll be lovely.

Love, love the Martin Flyer ring. What size RB''s are you considering for the sides??

Mine is an 8mm with 4.4mm sides, so a similar proportion. It looks a bit like an "eye"

Ignore the wb, I''m not supposed to be wearing it.

thankyou so much for helping out!

i am thinking of 0.25-0.30 on each side... which would measure around 4mm-4.2mm in diameter. would this be large enough so that they don''t look like "accents", but small enough at the same time to look like the martin flyer proportions? my center stone measures 7.69mm x 7.73mm ...

Oh your ring is just so lovely as is it pains me to discuss changes. Are you CERTAIN you still want a three-stone look? With a shared prong wedding band? Its a lotta look. Not a bad look. But a LOTTA look.

It will look lovely in the new setting, I''m sure, but I LOVE the current setting it''s in! Maybe you can have your jeweler polish the knife edge to make it more comfortable? In the end though, you have to love wearing it.

And may I say you have gorgeous hands! You could be a hand model!

I thought that too, I just didn''t know how to say it!

First, let me say that your current ering is very beautiful. Pear sidestones are a beautiful way to enhance a round center stone. The pears extend the finger coverage almost end to end. When I first began looking at three stone rings, I was sure I wanted the pears. Hubby didn''t like them as well; he referred to them as airplane wings. Ha! However, I wanted him to like my ring as well so I began looking at three stone rings with round sidestones. I actually found that on my hand they looked better to me so I went with a PrecisionSet Flushfit three stone setting. For some reason, I seem to be having trouble uploading images and am in too much of a hurry to resize or rename so you can look under my topics and find pictures of my three stone.

Fast forward to a couple of years ago and I tried on the Martin Flyer three stone semi mount. It is a very nice ring - I really loved it. My current sidestones are .33 each and that particular mounting had .40 sidestones. I went back and forth on it and decided for the money it wasn''t worth the very small increase in sidestone size. That ring was put together a little different than my current one but in the end I decided to stay with what I had as I didn''t want a drawer full of mountings that I couldn''t use! I can''t say that I will never go back and look at it again though.

Sidestones are like anything else - a personal preference. I hope that you can find that Martin Flyer ring to try on before you make your decision. It''s always nice to have the visual before you commit to another mounting.

guys i''m SO excited!!!

i am currently located in hong kong (moving back to NYC early next year), and since my uncle owns a high end diamond company that makes really nice rings and settings in HK, i went in today with a girlfriend and looked at several options!

here we go....

below is a photo of my wedding band that was custom made by my uncle''s company. it is a complete replica of the Tiffany eternity band with open basket and shared prongs. the width is 2.8mm with 20 x 0.08ct RB stones.

on top of the wedding band is a 1.81ct RB stone (D color, IF !!) with 2 heart shaped sidestones totaling 0.49ct. i''m really liking this option as i am quite liking the chunky look! i also really like the 6 delicate prongs. They really make beautiful prongs!

note that the wedding band is very separated from the e-ring ON PURPOSE so that i can see the e-ring by itself. the band is able to flush up to the e-ring.

This one is a 1.78ct RB stone, "blue teked" with 2 round sidestones totaling at 0.49ct as well. note that the 2 sidestones are are not set... again, with my wedding band...

here, the e-ring options along without the wedding band...

IMG_3263small.JPG

thankyou again and please i''d love to hear all of your feedback !!

I like your original ring better than any options you''ve pictured. That''s just me, and it''s YOU that needs to be happy

I will say if the knife edge bothers you, it''s quite a simple procedure to polish that down.

thankyou so much for your opinion! however, not only is the shank bothering me, it''s also the pointed end of the pear that''s been poking me....

that is why i have to consider other side stone options too...

I have to say that I absolutely adore the ring that you have currently. It seems that you like a different look than the what you have now, besides the fact that it is not comfy. The ring from your uncle''s company is very nice, but I can''t differentiate between stones. Just a lot of bling...(not that you don''t have a lot of bling with your current ring.)

a this point, i will have to change both my setting and side stones... now it''s the matter of what to change into... any preference between the 2 options? thanks!! :)

my vote is for the three round combo. the reason again is optics. if you didn''t like the round + pears because they look too "marquis" then I feel like the round + hearts has the same issue. sort of looks like a short marquis and somewhat like an eye as well. also, i feel like the hearts sort of combine with the center to give the appearance of "tacking" stones on to make the center look bigger and it also obfuscates the profile of your beautifiul center stone somewhat. but i can definitely understand the appeal saying you have two "heart" sidestones.

with the 3 rounds, i feel the sidestones are more separate and distinct. so you definitely do not get the optics of an "eye" shape, nor does it meld into the center stone as much. plus, it looks great with the eternity rounds.
