I was on here about a year and a half ago when I bought my fiance's e-ring (getting married in 3 months). Now my best man is shopping and I've been guiding him. He found a really beautiful setting and diamond together and I had him get a scan of the cert which I reviewed but am concerned about a few things on it.

1) The 13% crown seems kinda small to me,I've put this through the halloway cut advisor and light return, fire and scintillation are all Excellent but I'm generally used to a 14.5 - 15.5% crown

2) I'm mostly concerned about the Feather on the edge of the pavilion. From the cert it seems like the feather is rather large. I worry about two things with it.
a) If the feather will interfere with light that reflects off it
b) If the feather of that size presents a danger as far as cracking/chipping, especially since it's at the edge.

The fact that GIA graded it a VS2 leads me to believe that the feather doesn't jeapordize the integrity of the diamond since a severe feather would warrant a lower grade. I also understand it's difficult to really judge from just the cert but the vendor is on the other side of the country so it's all we really have to go by. Any comments are appreciated

No need to wory about inclusions. You are trying to be more educated than you can be C.

This stone is good for a pendant or earring, not a ring.

Thank you for your response but why is it not good for a ring?

Crown angle needs to be between 34-35. He can do better.

lgf% mismatch needs too be 80 or 85 in gia speak and its 75, its borderline and the short lgf% puts it under the line.

Thanks everyone for responding I now understand what you guys mean. I adjusted our search accordingly to ensure the proportions would be good for a ring.

My friend wanted to purchase a diamond today so we went to XIV Karat in beverly hills. We had also gone there last week and he saw a diamond he liked there. I'm more of a internet diamond buyer but he wanted to go to a B&M. Anyhow we went there an the sales associate was there flat out lying about the cuts of the diamonds. I told her the quality was too low and we wanted better cuts as the crown was rather small and the crown angle was low (even the gia certs graded the cut as "Very Good", I told her we wanted Excellent) and she said "this is the best cut you can get, good luck finding anything better". And she didn't say it nicely at all, and she put away all her stuff and signalled us to leave. I couldn't believe it. Anyhow we went back to my friend's place and searched for diamonds and he found one he liked that fit his budget. It's an AGS graded 1.01ct, H color, VS2, Ideal/Ideal/Ideal AGS000 cut, the angles/proportions look good to me and HCA is Excellent light return, fire and scintillation with Very Good spread.

I'd love to get some second opinions before he pulls the trigger on this one. He chose to drop down to an H color and stick with the VS2 to stay within budget. I personally would rather get a better color and drop to SI1 to stay within a budget. I've attached the cert of the diamond he picked, once again any comments are greatly appreciated.

In case it's too hard to read...
57% table
34.5 crown angle
40.7 pavilion angle
61.7% depth

Looks to be a winner!!
