Concerned about paying too much

So I'm concerned that my boyfriend and I may have committed to a diamond that was way over priced for the quality. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if he bought it yet or not because he wanted the actual proposal to be a surprise. We picked it out together and then I did more research and now I'm not sure it was a fair price. What should I do because I don't want to say anything if he has already bought the ring. What do you all think?

Just ask whether he bought it.

If his answer is no ... educate him.
If yes just be quiet, and happy unless it is still in the return period.

What Kenny said. If you know there is a return period, I would tell him you have learned more about diamonds and want to look for something else. So if he has bought it, he can just return it and you can start over.

Come here before buying next time!

You're lucky that you got to pick out the rings together, so I definitely wouldn't be worried about telling him that you learned more about diamonds and want to find something else. I'd try to do it sooner than later though, to have the best chance of being in the return policy window.

Do you remember the specs for the ring you originally chose? Shape, size, color, clarity...etc?

Speak up now or forever hold your peace. What exact issues do you have with the diamond? He will likely be very annoyed, but I'm of the mind to never pay more than you should for any product. I also suggest you show HIM exactly why you think the quality is inferior so he understands that you are not just being irrational and your just more educated in these things like most of us become post-PS lol.
