Richard Homer is the foremost cutter of concave gems in the world at this time. The facets are actually curved inward, concave, not convex as a cabachon. Sometimes he will concave both the crown and pavillion depending on the look he is shooting for. Most often he will concave facet just the pavilion which will give an incredible brilliance to the stone with virtually no windowing even in stones like quartz which are most often quite windowed.Date: 2/9/2006 1:24:05 PM

I don''t have an answer to your question. But, I do have a question. How do concave gems look different? I''ve been looking at them online and I can''t seem to figure it out. Are they rounded on top like a cabochon? Probably not, doesn''t look that way. Hmmm.
