It's here! finally managed to get something from one of Gene's drops.
My first concave cut stone, so far I think I like it, it's different and sparkly in a different way. I think I still prefer the traditional faceting, but it's nice to have at least one.

It was impossible to correctly capture the color, but I tried... It's not as neon as my rubellite from Barry, but it's more saturated.

1.84 ct, 7.5mm

I'm in no rush to set it, just finished a bunch of setting projects, and already have too many rings!
But ultimately, probably a semi bezel in yellow gold, something simple and sleek.

I like it very much in the last 4 pics you took. Can you contrast the sparkle of this concave cut to your nonconcave cut rubellite?

MTG,
I feel the same way as you do about concave faceting; lovely but it's not for me, yet it's good to have a good example in my collection. I'd love to see it next to your other rubellite too. It looks like red sparks shooting out from the center.

Minou,
A picture will not capture the difference in sparkle well. Concave faceting is static while flat faceting is busy. You have to see it in person to understand what I mean.

Looks great! I have yet to add a concave cut to my collection.

Lucky lady!! that's a beautiful stone - I love that cut and works well with your skin tone! and in YG --- ooooh, that will be PUuuuRRRRRRRRRDY!!!!!!

Actually, I thought about it, and since I'm going to try to actually pare down my collection, I felt like I didn't need two rubellites, and honestly I just like my one from Barry more, so I"m off to the post office soon to mail this one back to Gene. :/

I realize this, which is why I was asking MTG to provide us with a description of how she sees the difference herself. You misunderstood as I was not asking for photos. :))

Minou,
Thanks for the explanation. I get it now. I hope to read MTG's opinion as well.

MTG,
I'm sure the rubellite won't be sitting around in his inventory for long once it gets back to Gene.
