When I went into Joe Escobar''s this weekend, I was told that if I buy the upgrade stone from them, they''d set my original stone into a pendant (gold chain), no charge. Does any other jeweler in the area (South Bay) do anything complimentary like this? Also, I spoke to a lady there named Maia and she was nice to me.

It''s probably included in the price of the stone and not really free

Good point. Didn''t think of that.

Joe Escrobar is, in my experience, a good jeweler, I take all my repairs there, well, not my e-ring, that goes back to Ocean, but everything else. They are also on PS at times. They've offered me little things like that too, when I've considered purchases. They are just smart retailers. I've sent quite a few people who aren't comfortable shopping online to them... once they have diamond knowledge and comparative diamond qoutes in hand, and they've always gotten a fair deal, and beautiful diamonds. I've even gone diamond shopping with prospective grooms a time or two, and they are always very happy to see a PSer (Eric is the sales person I usually talk to), and an informed consumer. Which I appreciate.

So... yes, it's probably included in what you are paying... but at the same time it's not something they have to do, and it's a nice customer service point of theirs. And one I've personally appreciated.

Jewelry retailers will need to continue to be more creative in getting new customers
and growing their business. Complimentary services that I''ve recently seen include coffee,
bottled water, soda, ring polishing, watch batteries, gift wrapping, jars of jewelry cleaner, play areas for children.

Nothing earth shattering but a little more than you receive at your local automotive repair shop

What complimentary services do YOU find most interesting?

Hi Jeff, of the services you listed, I''d have to say jewelry cleaner. I clean my jewelry before I put them on every single time. Otherwise, my hand lotion will muck them up.

I''ve been offered wine and cookies ... that was really nice. Until I heard (later on) that the guy tried to convince an independent appraiser to cover up the fact that he damaged a customer''s stone ...
