Greetings,

I''m a new member, and like many people I imagine, someone who doesn''t plan to be in the market for more than a few purchases. Namely, this one is for a future fiance. That said, I have assiduously checked this site for a bit and done some research online. I know a bit about how diamonds are valued. I was pretty impressed by a Helzberg Masterpiece diamond, but the value-for-dollar ratio one can get online is compelling.

I''ve looked at three stones across two reputable sites that fit my needs. Can you all rate them in terms of your preference? I''m a little perplexed at the price differential. I also just need a bit of help deciding, frankly.

1. https://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/whiteflash-aca-cut-diamond-2231179.htm
2. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6725/
3. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4676/

I hope I am not violating any rules by posting this topic. Clearly, this is my first foray into posting here.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

All looks good.

The cheaper GOG stone looks like a very good deal. It was cut during the time when the economy starts going south, so the rough stone price is cheaper.

Thanks a lot. I was incredibly curious as to why one GOG stone with similar ratings was $1200 more than the other.

Also, I have incredibly specific needs for a setting, based on what I''ve clandestinely preened from the prospective fiance.

This setting fits the bill, pretty much: http://www.heartsonfire.com/#/us/en-us/diamond-collection/view-details.php?item_id=3360&item_name=Simply%20Bridal%20Tulip%20Solitaire&style_name=SimTC&type_id=1&type_name=Rings&subtype_id=1&subtype_name=Engagement%20Rings&type=1

I know, it''s a brand name, and one of the gaudier ones. The problem that I am having is that most online collections, or just collections in general have diamonds in the band or put metal on the side of the ring, occluding the stone, or are just a simple Tiffany style. So, is there a similar setting anyone can recall off the top of their head?
I presume a local jeweler can mount a loose stone in this without issue....but should I expect a lot of resistance because I don''t want the expensive HOF diamond with the setting?

I hope I am not asking too many questions.

OK, I like either of the less expensive diamonds, why pay more? I would call GOG and WF and ask them if they can access HOF diamonds for you. I think that perhaps they can as I have seen diamonds from PS vendors in HOF settings before.

Thanks a lot Dreamer.

One more question...is this diamond arguably a better value?

The better color grade seems to come at only a small markup, or am I mistaken? Thanks a lot for everyone''s help.

Thanks for the links Dreamer!

Hi Paradoxex

All the selections above look great, it just depends on budget and preference which you choose, I would probably go with the cheapest GOG diamond personally.

Me personally, I think that F color is overkill. A G color diamond is a very nice white with only the teensiest hint of warmth to make is seem real. Yes, dropping to H commands $1k. I have noticed that there is a significant price per carat change at that border. I think that unless you are very color sensitive or like knowing that you have a higher color diamonds, the H would make you very happy. That said, in some very critical environments you might see a whisper of tint from the side with an H, especially if it is a `low`H (brian can tell you if this is a high or low H, or if it is a nice true grade). It will look creamy, not yellow. If you want to *never* see a hint of tint no matter what, then a G may be safer.
