Hi everyone, I am looking to purchase an engagement ring for my girlfriend and have been researching diamonds a lot lately! I have a few round diamonds that I am looking at but I'm unable to make a final decision mainly because of a feather that concerns me from james allen.

This diamond is an SI2 but looks great except for the feather..a james allen employee is telling me that the feather is fine but i'm not so sure. can anyone give me any direction on this diamond?

another diamond I have found on there site is a .97 ct and is an SI1 for similar price.

would you choose one or the other..

and finally i am looking at a diamond from blue nile.. this diamond is supposedly 'eye-clean' and am currently waiting for an image of the diamond. http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD05872083

Re: Comparing a few round stones and question concerning fea

First thing to consider I'd will the feather be covered by the setting? If it will I don't think she will mind cause it's not shown, honestly she will be staring at her ring constantly and will grow to hate the feather of shown. Of course some would rather have s bigger stone and sacrifice clarity. I would kind of feel her out to see what is most important to her. I hope this helps.

Hi there, not sure if you've already decided, but for what it's worth I don't like the looks of that feather. I think you could do better. The second JA stone is sold, so not sure if that was you or not. The BN stone has a huge table at 61%, a steep pavilion, a shallow crown and has medium blue fluorescence. It scores a whopping 6 on the HCA, so I would definitely avoid that one! The recommendation is to consider a stone with a score of less than 2 on the HCA calculator.

Have you run these stones through the HCA tool? Look for stones that score 2 or under.

This one is bad news ...big table + a low crown = :knockout:
