Comparing 2 princess stones

Just got some preliminary info from my local jeweler on 2 different stones and would like some opinions.

Both are EGL certified and Princess cut. I am still waiting for some more details on one of them, but let me know if I am in the right ballpark.


1) 1.01 ct VS2 F Depth 78.3 Table 78 $4000

2) 1.23 ct VS1 H Depth ? Table ? $4600


Probably will be set in a platinum setting with .5 -.6 ct in channel diamonds for around $1500

We need more info in order to judge the cut of these stones.

Ideally, you should get a full Sarin-measurement, including both pavilion and both crown angles. Unfortunately, the standard concise Sarin-measurement does not give this info.

With many jewelers not having access to Sarin-measurements, I fear that it might prove difficult to get even the concise Sarin-info, which is not sufficient even.

Sorry if this sounds disappointing, but the cut-grading of princess-cuts has recently been improved with new studies and info, and most of the industry as such is not aware of this new info and changes. For us, these are exciting times, but it is extremely confusing for the consumers, who are faced with some people giving advice, based upon the old rules, and others helping, based upon the newest studies.

The price could well accomodate some options carying both GIA reports and better details of cut quality.
