Comparing 2 ACA diamonds. Questions about table% depth% etc.

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions. I am comparing two stones on WF in about the same Carat range and color but with different clarity. Is the cost difference primarily because of the clarity differences or is there more to it?

The table and depth percentages, etc. are different. Are there ranges that are acceptable for each category? Or can I assume if they are ACA that the numbers are where they are supposed to be? I noticed that the slightly smaller stone has a larger overall diameter than the larger one. Wasn't sure if the proportions were all off. Are these things where the HCA would help?

Thanks!

here is my 2 cents...

i just purchased an aca diamond from wf similar to one of the ones you are considering. the link below is was what i used for guidelines and of course the advice fm knowledgeable people in the know from ps. in the end i wound up buying an AWESOME rock as confirmed by an independent appraiser.

also, click on the tools tab and punch the diamonds numbers in the hca and aga tools and see how they fair. lastly, compare the aset and ideal scope pics

good luck... :twirl:

The stones that make it into WF's ACA diamonds are all cut within a very strict set of parameters. Although they are not all cut to the same exact specs, you can rest assured that they will both be very beautiful stones. I would definitely attribute the price difference to the clarity grades. They have both been graded as AGS0 for light performance so that is added security for you as well.

I trust the excellence and consistency of the ACA brand's cut so much that I would not even bother comparing cut details.

Just pick the one closest to your preferred combination of clarity, color, and size.

Re: Comparing 2 ACA diamonds. Questions about table% depth%

I don't even need to look at the lab reports on ACA's because they are consistently well cut. The price difference is due to clarity (and a very slight weight difference).

On the ACA topic: I agree with the others; the tolerance is narrow and more strict than conventional cut grades, which can be wide.

With respect, everything written beneath "Learn What GIA & AGS Have To Say About Cut" is six to seven years out of date. The AGS discontinued such charts in 2005 when they moved to a 3D performance-based system and the GIA moved away from their classroom-based "class" system (not included on RB reports) to a system of proportions-grading in 2006 (included on RB reports) which has completely different tolerances and nomenclature. Bottom line: All of the AGS/GIA data presented at that link is now obsolete.

No big deal, but it may be relevant to note for anyone browsing that link.

Cheers,
