i've been trying to learn about diamonds and i'm picking it up as i go. I've purposefully selected 3 very similar diamonds with slightly different IS, ASET, and hearts images and would like comments on what the differences mean and where you see it in each diamond...

and pick a winner if you want, why not....

These all look like pictures from Whiteflash ACA or Expert Selection lines. All look great in terms of light return/cut, and it's unlikely you'll be able to tell the difference visually. I would go with the best color/size/clarity vs. price ratio in order to pick a winner.

yeah they are...

what i've done is purposefully shown slightly different diamonds with what i think is some light leakage vs one without say... to learn how to read a IS or ASET better... i'm not interested in purchasing these diamonds.. this isn't a which one should i choose... that's why i haven't provided sizes or color or anything...

the diamond on the far right is definetly hands down the best.. in terms of all those images... i see a big difference in that one compared to the others..

just my humble non expert opinion

ok so you're saying you thinks it's the best, what is your reasoning? not questioning, but your reasoning is what i'm after..

hmm.. well i feel it has the least amount of leakage under the table on the aset... the is looks the brightest and most crisp.. and the hearts look the most symmetrical to me..

what do you think?

reading the IS images...

I actually thought that the one on the left was the best. The reason for that is the one on the right has a darker black middle ring to it. Whereas the one on the left the red seems consistent. What does it mean that internal darker blackish ring on the one on the right... forgive me if it's just down to photography...

hearts... yes the one on the right is definitely the most symmetrical. are we also talking about the thickness of the lines or is thin or thick ok regardless and your comments are based purely on symmetry?

I chose the one on the left first then the one on the right. the one in the middle had that slight amount of white under the table (although OK and acceptable). I like the one on the left because the arrows seem crisper, a little fatter, tightly spaced. The ASETS and IS all look good. They all look great, but I'd go 1-3-2.

The IS image of the left stone is the best IMO.

yeah so the one on the left has the best IS IMHO. It's hearts though are not as symmetrical and the thickness of the lines comes down to personal taste as a stars/LG preference.

I would say the stone on the right's hearts are in fact the most symmetrical and at a guess i'd think that it would be the best CUT of the lot...

but yes, in the real world all are good..

hey i know something about the middle stone that would make you all pick that one

Did you ever buy your diamond? What is going on with that? Did you get it?

no unfortunately... there are reasons i won't go into but i was close and now i'm just learning heaps until my time comes again...

**edit ** just realized how bad that might sound... same partner still :wink2:

So does anyone have an opinion re the slightly black ring on the third IS?

What black ring? I don't see a black ring?

What's up with the middle IS that would make us all choose that???

Well the left IS is the same red/pink colour from outside to in, however the one on the right seems to have a subtle darker inner ring. I think it seems consistent to get that colour right before you start getting the tell tale white light leakage indication.

What would make you all pick the middle stone? Let me put it this way... They are all excellent right? We are just really saying which one is the most excellent... Well if one was twice the size.... :)
