Do comments on GIA certs such as not all cloudy spots shown and having pinholes, clouds and the 100''s of other things pictured on the diamond really matter? Or is it just about the rating given?

Another way said, does it matter if a VS diamond has lots of comments on the certificiate versus the same diamond without the comments? Would a person always want the one with less marks on the certificate?

Thanks!!

Not necessarily. The size, number, position, visibility and location of inclusions all play a part in determining what grade the stone is given. Some people prefer a plot with several tiny characteristics to one with a single inclusion that is larger.

The clarity grade is a summary of how the diamond appears face-up to the grader at 10X magnification and when strictly graded, stones VS+ usually appear identical to the naked eye, face up (with some rare exceptions).

The tricky area, with regard to visibility, is lower-than-VS grades: One diamond may have a plot completely peppered with characteristics, but completely eye-clean. Another may have a single characteristic that can be clearly seen.

Once you hit I2 and I3 there will be obvious visibility or durability concerns - or both.

Ditto on John,

If it does bother you then seek out a diamond that has less comments and if comparable in price then why get the one with the extra stuff on the cert...would seem that there are enough options out there in the range you are looking for...
