The diamond that I am interested in has the following listed under comments:

Pinpoints are not shown.
Surface graining is not shown.

Does this mean there are other defects in the diamond? Also, the certificate is dated Apr 2007. Does this mean that nobody has wanted this diamond in the past year? Maybe I am worrying too much here...!

Comments such as pinpoints not shown and surface graining not shown, basically mean that these are of a minor nature and just mentioned for the sake of completeness - usually no worries.

What is the clarity grade of this diamond and the lab report? Also sometimes a diamond can take a while to find a home, usually no worries with the age of the report either. Do you have the other diamond details such as the colour, carat and proportions?

This should give you an introduction to Idealscope. Very basically, Idealscope images help determine whether a diamond is leaking light, and therefore not performing to it's fullest potential ( sparkle.) See this page for more on how these images can help. Some vendors have Idealscope images available if they own the diamond, or you can request one.

Zomby, the diamond you are considering looks potentially very nice!

So before I purchase the diamond, I should look at the IS image to ensure minimal white area?

it implies your diamond has a high clarity grade. (VS1)

it is a large, fine quality stone-->money. These things take a while to sell.

An IS image is very useful to check out a diamond, but with these numbers and a vendor like JA who has a good return policy, you should be fine. Post the IS if you can when you get it!
