I was looking at this diamond on BN:

Carat weight: 1.79
Cut: Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: SI1

Depth %: 62.5%
Table %: 56%
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.71 x 7.74 x 4.83 mm

Since it is an SI diamond there is always a question of eye cleanliness, but that inspection would have to be done after it is recieved. Before I recieve the diamond I would like to know what to expect.

What do the comments in the GIA report mean? Are they something that can impact the quality of the diamond or are they listed just for extra info?

Internal and surface "grain lines" are transparent and very difficult to see under magnification. Pinpoints as well. Since these characteristics weren''t really used in determining the SI1 grade, they were listed under comments to be thorough.

In other words, the characteristics you see plotted on the diagram were the "grade makers" on this stone, not the grain lines or pinpoints, and they''re nothing to worry about.

Yes these characteristics aren''t the ones that determined the grade so they go into the comment section. They are to be noted but as Richard said they are nothing to worry about...

I am strongly thinking about getting this stone. Do you think that this is a good one? Is there anything that you would be concerned about?

Having purchased from BN before, you can ask for an eye-clean request. They can have the vendor look at the stone and tell you whether it''s eye clean. Usually you''ll hear back the same day.

Hi Matt

The crown and pavilion angles are needed to properly evaluate this diamond please.

Crown - 35
Pavilion - 40.8

Thanks Matt. This angle combo is a bit ' iffy' as it is bordering on what we call on Pricescope ' steep deep', 35/40.8 is hovering on the edge of that zone, further complicated by the fact that GIA round the numbers. So what this means is that if the angles are actually shallower than the above, the diamond could be perfectly fine, or if rounded steeper, it could show light leakage " the enemy." The way to know if leakage is an issue or not is to preferably get an Idealscope image of the diamond, however Bn do not offer these.

If you want to pursue this diamond, then you can take a good look in person to see if you notice a dark ring around the table or dark patches, or for $25 you can order an Idealscope if you want to make absolutely sure.

If I ask BN to take a look at the stone are they the type of company to give me feedback, or do I need to purchase the diamond to get a little more information?

There are a couple stones that I am looking at and I would like to avoid the process of purchasing then returning the diamond.

WF and JA seem to be able to provide more info, but I dont know anything about BN.

BN don''t offer images such as ASET and Idealscope, I believe they have their Signature Ideal diamonds in house so can evaluate things such as ''eyecleanliness'' for you but for other non in house diamonds they have to contact the suppliers to find these things out. Post the info of the others if you like and we can help you determine which is likely to be the best ones.
