Colored diamonds

Hi -

I am an obvious newbie here, and had a question about colored diamonds in general.
I know that color, ct, clarity, cut all make a huge difference but -
are pink and yellow diamonds typically more when comparing to a clear diamond?
I know we are comparing apples to oranges - but take my diamond in my e-ring for instance
that I posted about last night. Based on its improper cut, I could probably only get
$2000 at most for it - and it is 1.01 ct., H color, VS2, brilliant round cut. (But depth
is too shallow.)
If I wanted a colored diamond in the same size or even half the size - how much,
on average are we talking?? Best to buy online or in person and if online, any suggestions on where?

Hm...

It should help to browse some quotes and see for yourself: try Ishay Group (www.fancycolordiamond.net), Icestore, Scheiner Diamonds, Diamonds by Lauren, James Allen, Fancy Diamonds (www.fancydiamonds.net) - each has a rather large list of loose colored diamonds in all colors.

As far as I know, light yellows (Y-Z to 'fancy light') may be a bit less than near colorless white. Everything else is more - stronger yellow matches D-F prices with vivid yellow nicely through that roof sometimes. And other colors way more than that. Graish and brownish color modifiers (as in 'brownish pink' or 'brownish yellow') bring the price down - and sometimes you'd wonder why because the resulting color is still quite a bit closer to the main hue than the modifier... but still. A couple of pinks at Diamonds by Lauren make good examples of that.

PS. one more thing - if you start with the current stone as reference: rounds are not common in fancy colors because the shape does not show color well, and these are graded face up not face down as the colorless. So the cut is allowed to influence the color grade more. Cushions and radiants are the most common.

Ana- what you wrote is pretty close.
I''d say that the lighter yellows are less than colorless- that would include U-V, W-X, and Y-Z. These are not much more than the least expensive colors in diamonds- O-P, Q-R, S-T. One carat stones in these colors can range from $1800-$2900 +-
Fancy Light Yellow is about the same as I-J color in price.
Fancy Yellow might be close to G color.
Fancy Intense Yellow- now we''re up in the D-E range in terms of price.
Fancy Vivid Yellow- can be double a D color

Now, if we''re talking , say pink- the scale is slightly different.
Fancy Light Pink can be 10 times the color of D
Fancy Intense Pink- one carat diamond can cost $100,000- $250,000

Fancy Intense BLUE????? How about 1/4- 1/2 million for a really nice one carat?

Dog- there''s simply not a lot of stores carrying selections of these colors
