Hi,

Long time lurker first time poster. I just recently bought a large cache of jewelry from a local jeweler going out of business.

These were in the lot and i just wondered about the color, they seem to have a light blueish grey haze over them, would that be a fancy color or?

I tried to take a bunch of photos, let me know if you would like me to try more. Thank you very much in advance for everyone's help! Really a great forum you guys have.

I'm really hoping they're just very dirty, because if not, they look like industrial grade diamonds in the pics. Not a good thing. :nono:

Let them soak in some dishwashing liquid then take a soft toothbrush and scrub. You can rinse them in very hot water, and then a quick soak in some rubbing alcohol.

Take new pics and post. If they look the same.. well.. they're not really worth anything.

eta: impossible to tell color from the pics, but those are most likely not fancy colored diamonds.

Unfortunately, they are probably just very low quality. The material probably has dense clouds of pinpoint inclusions that are stealing the transparency and thus making them dull and hazy.

First try a thorough cleaning as Elle_Chris suggested and see if they improve. There is another possibility, although very remote. The stones could have sustained surface damage by fire. In that case they could potentially be restored by repolishing. It is unlikely to be the case however. A diamond professional could look at them at tell you what you are dealing with.

Have you confirmed that those are diamonds and not something else?

Hi,

Thank you all very much for your responses. Yes they are real diamonds. I went ahead and did the steps you recommended for the cleaning. I then took some additional photos. I think the issue is my images, they sparkle alot and are very hard to photograph. I thought my endoscope would be best, but it appears with any direct light it changes the appearance. i tried a few different cameras here are the results.

Please see the updated photos and thank you very much for your assistance.

They are looking better. You might want to take them to a jeweler and have them soak them in an ultrasonic cleaner and then steam them. Many jewelers will do that for free. If a little home cleaning made a difference, having them professionally cleaned may really get them to kick.

Well they are diamonds that's good. I'd take them to my local jeweler and tell them I'm looking to sell them and want an idea o color and clairty and ask them what they would pay you for them. Then you know. :naughty:
