So I have heard two contrasting theories about low-color diamonds (for example, I or J)

Theory 1: The diamond "takes on" the color of the band in which it is set. In other words, place the diamond in a platinum or white gold setting, and it will face up whiter than putting it in a yellow gold setting

Theory 2: Use contrast to your advantage. Place the diamond in a yellow gold setting and it will seem quite white by comparison to the gold. Place the same diamond in a white gold/platinum setting and it will appear more yellow in comparison to the white metal around it.

Which theory do you guys agree with more? Thanks!

Theory 2.

Diamonds are graded for color on a white background. Setting the diamond in a silver color ring (white gold or platinum) will enhance your ability to see the color.

Hmmm...if anyone believes theory one, I would hope they do not set their diamond in white gold as their diamond will increase in yellow color over time as the Rhodium platinum comes off...
