I am in a long process of finding the perfect ring. I have one question about color....I am going to be purchasing a diamond in the 2 carat range. Would the color I show up significantly in a ideally cut diamond(like a WF ACA)? Thanks for any and all input.

What type of setting are you thinking about getting? color, style, etc (and everyone will say it will face up very white. Which will be true, unless--I imagine-- you are well trained to detect the color from the top.)

You will be safe.

I can safely say that for smaller diamonds, it won't show up unless you're very color-sensitive. I'm honestly not sure for 2cts. My guess is that it probably won't show up significantly from the top, but you may see some color in the profile.

I'm a HUGE fan of I color diamonds because they really bring the price down, and I can't tell the difference from H to I.

significantly? I don''t think so. More so, possibly with a "J" but not an "I"
Just my opinion.

I am a huge fan of the price differences too.

well, take my advice with a grain of salt. But I say go for it, order it and see how it looks. Then show it to SEVERAL other girls not too close to her with similar eyesight and tastes. For some of them tell them to look at the color before you even show them the ring, then for others let them look at it for a while before mentioning the color. If possible have them view it in different lighting. But don't just trust your own judgement, as it is just an unnecessary risk for such a special occasion.

If you aren't happy with it, you can always send that little fellow back and upgrade to a G.

I think you''d almost have to order one and see for yourself. The thing about I color is that it can be high, close to H, or low, close to J. So you almost have to see it to decide if the color bothers you from the side or not. But with a 2 ct. stone, I color will help a lot on the price, so I''d probably try it.

This might help too!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am trying to fit all the pieces together. I think I will stay looking at color I and order it in advance to make sure I like it.

You had better order it in advance. Order it at least 1 month in advance if possible, so you have time to send it back. Get your money back or complete all requirements for an "upgrade" and get your new stone and look at it and send it back also if you have to. But for sure, you need to have it in your hands a good 3 weeks just so you can have time to look at it and do everything you need to if you have to send it back. It's online...and your engagement ring..the risk of messing up and having to admit ("Oh, I know it is yellow...I am sorry...Yes, I bought it online" You can imagine the shaking hands from the common folk when they hear this) is just too severe:) especially when you can get it worked out guaranteed with ample time.

Also, as to those examples, those are face up, on the computer (where subtle hues and such will have a very difficult time being portrayed) and in different shape diamonds with unknown lighting conditions and cut qualities...so don't put TOO much stock in that example.

Thanks for the laugh. I can picture my future wife saying something like that. Knowing my luck I need to order it 2 months in advanced. The only problem is once I spend that kinda of money I want to give it to her right away to show off.

I think you will be fine with the I! You will be able to see a difference between it and a D, especially in profile, but how often will you be comparing it to another diamond? By itself I think you will think it looks extremely white and beautiful!

I would take a 2 carat I any day! If it''s an ideal cut it should face up white. Not as white as a D, of course, but if I had a 2 carat rock I sure wouldn''t care! (Of course, be sure to order from a vendor with a good return policy.)

Does anyone have any experience with returning diamonds to WF. I have read all good things on Pricescope but just thought I would make sure.

Sorry, non here, but I also wanted to make my official recommendation to select several different stones, buy a plane ticket and fly up there and look at them yourselves to make your purchase.

Would they hold several stones? I had thought about doing that but after reading about WF I thought that it probably wasn''t necessary.

I am sure they will pull several for you, I have read several post where they have done it and the WF rep. has made a number of comments where he talks about his incredible customer service. I think for a 2ct purchase though it is a def no brainer. It is such a small percentage of the purchase to get there, removes any doubt about the purchase, allows you face to face interaction and a personal analysis of all the different colors and qualities yourself so you can make the best decision possible (after all, you might not send it back, but it still might not be the best combo) and it removes any criticisms you might receive for making a purchase online (and makes it a bit more romantic for her when she finds out). Def ask them though, I have a strong feeling they will accommodate you.

Thanks for that link. It really helped seeing all of those photos. I think I could possible find a J stone that would face up white.

Well, from first hand experience of seeing the 3 to 5 carat ACAs at WhiteFlash in person, we never dreamed it would be an I colored stone......it was so white. We honestly thought it was an F color stone. The ACAs face up white really well.

Also, put the stone is a White Gold or Platinum setting.

Just to put your mind at rest, I have returned a couple of stones to WF in my quest for the perfect stone for me. I have never had the slightest problem getting my money back in a timely manner.

Just follow all their very clear policies and directions and you should have no trouble.

Good luck!

Maybe you need to make sure that none of your girlfriend''s friends have big D-F stones. Because, in such a scenario, with evil fluorescent lighting, the difference could be obvious. This is highly unlikely but granted that the public only really understand colour and clarity...

Many PSers like strong blue fluorescence which helps to undercut yellow. Just make sure that this doesn''t give it a murky look.

This is a good point. We recommended an H stone to a guy one time and he ended up very unhappy with it. His girlfriend''s sister had a D or E and he just felt the H looked yellow. So it''s all relative to the individual, really.

Do florescent lights make a stone look yellow? I saw a great looking J eightstar and made me feel comfortable about going I-J, buy maybe I should reconsider. Hmmm

Hi,
I have a 3+ carat ACA which GIA graded as I, but 2 appraisers graded as J. It faces up white. Hth.

I have a 4+ I color stone with q great cut and a few jewelers who saw it when I was looking for a wedding band guessed it was a G. It faces up very white. When I saw it loose, it looked darker from the back but that is not what you see once the stone is set.
My stone c9mes from Whiteflash and if you speak to Brian, he will be able to tell you how the stone faces up and anything else you want to know.
I think you would be very safe with that stone but you can have it sent to ann appraiser where you can see it before you pay.

so did you call today? how did it go?
