Color band in topaz?

I was under the impression that topaz doesn’t have color banding. Is that true or only sometimes true?

Wondering whether a stone I saw offered as a topaz is really something else (that does color band).

It's a bit difficult to tell for sure from a photo but the color bands appear curved - a classic sign of flame fusion synthetic sapphire.

Thank you! I suspected it might be sapphire, though I don’t really see curving in that striation. That’s what got me questioning it.

You’ve seen tons more stones in person than I have so I appreciate your knowledge and input.

Synthetic sapphire - not topaz. I just liked the color of it. But (LOL) would rather fork out topaz money for natural sapphire
