I''ve been lurking for about 2 months now. I have a question as my future FI is searching for a diamond right now. Is the color or clarity most important? I am considering a G VS1 or an F VS2. Which would look more eye clean? Or should I go lower in the clarity and higher in the color? Confused. Thanks

Hi Welcome to Pricescope. Cut is king here; you want the best cut stone which will help hide color. A poorly cut stone will show more color.
I think a G VS2 is a safe choice; that is what I have and can not see any inclusions. What shape of stone are you looking for? The fancier shaped stones will show a bit more color than a round brilliant. You can use this tool if you are looking for a round and select Excellent Excellent for cut http://www.pricescope.com/sift.aspx hope that helps.

Thanks a lot Skippy for your reply. My FI is looking for a ideal cut round brilliant between 2-2.25 carats.

Hi there,
A GIA graded VS1 and VS2 should both be eyeclean, as are some GIA SI1s (and even some SI2s if you get really lucky). I''m very color sensitive, so I stayed in the F and above range and would''ve been happy with any eye clean stone that didn''t have inclusions that would cause structural concerns. Most posters on PS really aim towards getting the biggest and best cut stone that''s within their color and clarity comfort zone. If you know the shape of stone that she likes, just ask for help and the resident specialists can steer you in the right direction.

Here are a few using that tool I posted above.

The near colorless are G-J You can also do eyeclean SI1's but you need to verify that w/the vendor.

can't wait to see what you find.

I agree with other, cut is most important in terms of sparkle and shine!!! After that I prefer to get a stone that is eye clean and a good balance between being "white" and affordability. For me, the sweet spot is an eye clean H/SI range.

Thanks so much everyone. I will post once I get my rock!!!!!!!
