I'm shipping off my tourmaline to JKT tomorrow, so I took some pictures of my collection. Apparently I'm drawn to paler colors. I've been craving some bright stones to add into the mix, so that's where I'm headed as soon as I have a stone budget again.

Pictures aren't the best. It was overcast and late afternoon. Sorry.

:appl: So pretty... I like the palette you are drawn to. Can you give a run down of what and were they are from?

Sure. OK, looking at the top picture, from L to R:

  • pair of ~7x5mm colorless Thai zircons bought from Gary at Dutton's Diamonds (I go back and forth on keeping these. They were very cheap, but setting them is such a low priority. I should probably try to unload them and put the money toward another project.)
  • 6.3mm peach Nigerian tourmaline cut by Lisa Elser
  • pair of 2.6mm chrysoberyls from Uli; from Tunduru, Tanzania
  • 3.4mm rhodolite garnet from Uli; from Clearwater River in Idaho
  • 5.7mm Mali garnet from Uli (pretty included but still has sparkle)
  • 5mm Pakistani peridot cut in an acorn cut by Doug at Bespoke (I really need to take some better picture and give this its own thread.)
  • 6.2mm mint tourmaline from Afghanistan cut in an asscher by Jeff White

As far as I know all of these gems are untreated, though I don't have certs on any of them.

That mint tourmaline is

And yes you do need a thread on the acorn peridot!

What a great collection you've got there

I'm with Davi on the mint tourmaline =) and the Lisa stone is great too -- in fact they're all so interesting together. Like the palette a lot. What are you having JKT do w/ the tourm?

The zircons will probably be heat-treated but I bet a lot of money that nothing has been done to any of the others.

Pretty collection!

Thanks guys. I was bored so I figured everyone likes pictures, right? ;)

I'm having Julia set the JW tourmaline into a ring. I graduated in December so this is my college ring. I haven't seen any official design sketches yet, but we've talked a lot about a simple yet elegant ring. I've also bombarded her with different inspiration pics (mostly gleaned from you guys). It will probably end up as a double bezel job, possibly two-tone. Not sure if I'll have small side stones or not. I'm going to send those tiny chrysoberyls to her and see what she thinks. I can't decide if I like them as side stones or not. I've also thought about letting her get some diamond side stones for me. IDK.

Beautiful colors. I like the tourmaline. The Idaho garnet can hold its own, too. I never saw them IRL. Than you for beautiful photos.

I like pastel stones too
Your collection is lovely and I know you will be happy with your ring !
