Hi, I am looking for a little peace of mind because it is going to be about four days before I can have a jeweler check my ring. Last night I dropped my e-ring, which was in its box, on the hardwood floor. The fall took a dent out of the box, however, the ring seemed to be ok. I was just wondering if the fall could have damaged the stone or loosened the stone in the setting. It was about a 5'' fall and the setting is platinum.

I am a paranoid freak...

Do you have a loupe that you can have a closer look at your ring? If it was secure in the box it might be ok, but it would be worth a little bit of closer investigation

did the ring come loose in the box or was it still tucked into the little cushy holding place?

Maisie,
I did give it a once over with a loupe last night, and I did not see any damage. I think the box took the impact (kind of like crumble panels on a car lol)

I was just worried that the impact could have loosened the setting, and I don''t want to worry about loosing the stone while I am away this weekend. I shook the ring by my ear though and did not hear any rattling.

(I freaked myself out one other time when I took it off to let a friend try it on, and ended up hucking it across the table at a restaurant and onto the floor...It managed to survive that)

I am a spaz

mrssalvo,
It was barely still in the cushy part, it came up a little, but did not come completely loose.

mrssalvo,

It was barely still in the cushy part, it came up a little, but did not come completely loose.

then i think it''s probably just fine. sounds like the box took the hit but if the ring didn''t even come completely out, it wouldn''t have even banged around on something inside. always good to have a jeweler double check.

Why don''t you just carefully touch the diamond on the edges with your thumb and pointing finger and try to "gently" move it. (know what I am trying to say?) You will be able to feel if the stone is loose or not.

Oh your poor baby! That sounds like something I would do! I hope its ok. At least it was in its box when it fell

Well, I can''t move it around. I think it is ok. I really have to be more careful!

I know what you mean. I am so careful with my diamond.... I am obsessed! Its insured too! I take it off when I am doing anything with my hands (apart from typing on here obviously - it would be wrong if I didn''t wear it while on PS lol).

Yeah, I am a little obsessive too. (The reason it was in the box was because I had just given it a US bath and was putting it away to go to bed)

I should just leave it on though, I tend to do the most damage when I am trying to protect it!

I don''t at all mean to sound dismissive of your worries, but I am sure the ring is fine. It will take much harder knocks in the future, and it will withstand them too.

It''s probably just fine, but you can check it with a loupe to make sure. I''ve given my rings some pretty good wacks and they are just fine.
