Cloud??

Im interested in getting this diamond.

Everything looks nice, however, its clarity characteristic is "cloud" on the report. What does it mean? Since there are little inclusion, is the entire face cloudy?

Hello Oliliteewu,

Even though James Allen would technically be considered our industry peer and competitor, we'd like to try and offer an unbiased opinion.

The cloud inclusion is a cluster of pinpoints that create a haze in a region within the diamond.Small clouds are not visible to the naked eye. We prefer cloud inclusions in higher clarity diamonds because they can be more difficult to find than a crystal or feather.

Without having physically seen this diamond in person, we would say that a cloud in a VS2 clarity graded diamond is desirable and will not make the entire face of the diamond cloudy. Most likely, the cloud is isolated to a specific location or region. Keep in mind though that if the only marked inclusion is a cloud, then that could is large enough to be the grade setting inclusion.

Our conclusion is that this diamond most likely does not have a major inclusion that is eye visible or that would make the face look cloudy so don't worry too much about that.

When clarity characteristics are listed as ‘clouds’ it simply means a cluster of pinpoints that create a small, dense area. If this were an SI1 or SI2 diamond I’d encourage the gemologist to be sure nothing interfered with transparency. But clouds will be quite minimal in any diamond graded as a GIA VS2. It should also be eye-clean by common standards. In no way will the “entire face” being cloudy.
