Yay! DH and I are first-time home owners as of this afternoon! I just wanted to thank the PS community for all your valuable insight to my home-owning questions and for all the helpful threads that were here already. Thanks so much!
Congratulations Elmorton! That is so exciting!
I hope, hope, hope I''ll be right behind you, we are currently jumping through the bankers'' hoops, and have been told that it should be okay.
However, I just can''t help but worry, worry, worry!!
Enjoy moving in!
Thanks for all the well-wishes! We actually moved in prior to closing (which was stressful, yikes) so everything is unpacked, and, with the exception of a few minor tweaks and repairs, we're settled in (and the stove arrives today - I am SO sick of cooking with a microwave!).
I was asked for pictures The house itself is pretty small - it's a bungalow style and built in 1925, so lots of character which is what DH and I fell in love with.
The first is a not-so-hot shot of the guest room, but I wanted to include it because I got PS help on it! The headboard was a Goodwill find for $12, but I love that it's kinda deco and goes with the house, and then I found a pillow sham at Target to tie in the reds from the photo frames on the opposite wall (where the desk and computer is - not visible in this pic) and took Somethingshiny's suggestion for yellow walls - I think it ties in really well! The big box is my wedding dress, which has since been packed in a better acid-free box and is now tucked under the bed (and info from that came from yet another PS thread!).
And the next two are from before we moved in. The first is of the arches that divide the living room from the dining room. The columns look almost identical to the ones on the front porch, which I think is kinda cool.
And the last is of the kitchen - it's hard to tell, but the counters are a gorgeous granite that has amber, a deep purple-y red, and black. In the older homes we looked at, it was so hard to find a functional kitchen, and I just love the space in here. We just finished adding hardware to the cabinets last night (ugh, I never want to do that again!), and when the stove arrives today, I'll be a very happy camper. I can't wait to actually cook in here! The buffet counter is not original, and at first that bugged me, but I like how much light it lets in to the rest of the house.
Thanks again for the congratulations and the help along the way!
Love the pics, El!!! Your house is super-charming!! I love the arched doorways, moldings, and just the style of the house in general!!! Congratulations again!!!
