Oh I have just cleaned my e-ring after 2 weeks of wearing it and cannot believe the difference!!
Its sooo sparkly!~

I think I have become addicted to cleaning it...

Just a few questions:

Will it damage my diamond by ''over'' cleaning it?

Also, is there a risk that I may loosen the diamond in its setting with too much cleaning / polishing?!

How often would you normally clean your e-ring and what''s your favourite method?

I just bought a ring bath from my jeweller (comes with a little brush) and works a charm!!

Open to hear ideas for any other methods - i also purchased an eye glass and couldn''t believe the grime stuck to the stone, even though i remove my ring when i clean or cook etc!!

Many of us clean everyday. It won''t ruin the stones in any way, but if your ring is white gold just make sure you are using the right cleaners, it could ruin the gold.

You could potentially risk loosening the diamond, but that''s why it''s a good idea to get it checked periodically anyway!

Hi neatfreak,

Thanks for the advice! My stone is set in a platinum setting so luckily I don’t have to worry about cleaning white gold. I’ve found that even after cleaning I can still see some grime stuck to the stone and for the life of me just can’t work out how to get rid of it?!

I’ve a selvyt cloth that I carry constantly in my handbag and FI has jokingly said that in 10 years it will be half its size with the amount that I clean and polish it!! LOL

I just love the way it sparkles when its had a good scrub... if only I could afford an ultrasonic cleaner

I use a baby toothbrush to scrub on any spots or smudges I might see. It seems to work great.

Uh oh, you are addicted to it like most of us now!! It''s perfectly fine to clean your ring daily. One exception is that you probably shouldn''t use an ultrasonic on a pave setting. It could loosen the small stones. For regular baths and the drug store ammonia based cleaner pave is fine.

I usually clean my jewelry once a week or so depending on the level of dirtiness. I don''t like the ultrasonic cleaners which vibrates. My jeweler told me that after a long time the diamonds may become loose from the vibration.

I simply boil a little water in a saucepan and add some Windex(ammonia) to it to loosen up all the dirt then with a soft toothbrush clean the ring. I then rinse it with warm water. If you try this method don''t rinse it under cold water it may damage the stones. Also I don''t recommend Windex for soft stones(emeralds, etc.) and on pearls. I never tried it on my color stone jewelry per my jeweler''s advice so there must be a reason for it.

Start saving girl! That''s the best way to get the grime you can''t reach with a toothbrush IMO...

I ran out and bought jewelry cleaner the day after I got engaged just to make sure I could keep my ring nice and sparkly

How much is an ultrasonic cleaner? The regular cleaner is working just fine, but my ring is not even a week old so I suppose that in time I''ll want something better.

So what are you supposed to use on white gold? I''ve always just used the regular jar of jewelry cleaner on all my white gold pieces and never had a problem, but since my new e-ring (whenever I decide on a setting) will be in 18K white gold, I want to be sure that I stay away from anything that could cause issues. Thanks!

Cleansers not containing ammonia or bleach are OK on white gold. I use ammonia-free windex on mine.

You are totally fine as long as you don''t use ammonia or bleach. No worries!

I just got this ionic cleaner with a steamer. Its awesome!!! It is different than ultrasonic and it is supposed to be more safe for pave because it uses electric cleaning rather than vibrating.

if the ultrasonic can loosen your stone that easily then you shouldn''t even wear it.

about $170 for a heated 1 qt size. all you''ll need is a 1 pt no heat with SS tank.

I use my ultrasonic every day!!!

*removing e-ring from bath as we speak...*

Yes the addiction is firmly in place... I’m still in the ‘omg your engaged! Show me the ring!’ stage so I get this minor hesitation when people lean in to touch the ring – it’s gone beyond obsessive that if anyone does touch it I start rubbing my hand on my back to try and clean the fingerprints off with my shirt – no one has noticed yet!!

I am starting to save for the ultrasonic... not sure how my FI will react when I bring it home... he already thinks I am crazy – the sweetest part that he smiles at me cuz he knows that despite the compulsive behaviour I love my ring and him to bits and we’ve never been happier...x

No pave on my e-ring but I am thinking about getting a micro pave wedding band, but wondering if that is a good choice seeing as it does seem to attract a fair bit of grub! Has anyone on PS ever lost a diamond in a ultrasonic cleaner?! I would be mortified if that happened to me

Many people have, me included. But that being said, an u/s cleaner isn''t going to shake loose anything that isn''t already loose KWIM? And if it''s already loose I''d rather lose it in my u/s than when I am out and about someplace!

Thanks! That''s not too bad. *goes running to FI requesting special ultrasonic cleaner to keep ring sparkly*
