I''m at my wits end ... every store-bought "Upholstery Cleaner" I look at says "not recommended for use on velvet".

Do I have to call one of those services to come & steam clean it or something ya think?

There was a, um, yicky accident a few days ago and it hasn''t been the same since. Lots of Shout Wipes were involved and now I see that those say "not on upholstered furniture" EITHER.

Off to search online -- but I trust y''all more than some random cleaning site! DO NOT ASK WHAT HAPPENED. Believe me ... YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW.

If it involved *protein*, it's gonna be tough to get out.

Anyhoo, how about some of that dry cleaning fluid you can purchase at a dept store?

The best thing that ever accidently happened to me was finding a slip covered denim couch at Pottery Barn Outlet. I added another slip covered denim love seat from Rooms to Go and I wash them about once a month--in the washer on gentle--put them back on wet so they dry and conform to the frames.

good luck!

What kind of velvet is it? Cotton, rayon, acrylic?

I just use a small bit of water and dishwashing soap on our velvet couch...but **knock on wood** we haven''t gotten anything major on it, so haven''t needed anything too serious.

If you lift your cushions there should be a tag with care instructions. If you can''t find that your best off calling the company where you bought your sofa and see if they can give you care instructions.

I know where we used to work they used to steam velvet fabric for sofa''s.
