Do a search on using ultrasonics and wgold. I don''t own any wgold so I am not sure, but I have a feeling that the ammonia doesn''t do nice things to the plating on wgold. You may need to use just warm water and detergent which should be fine.Date: 4/16/2008 9:02:05 PM

how often is it recommended to clean your rings/stones? i would think that frequent exposure over time may ''dull'' the stone?

For another simple method, you could try this cleanser -- I use it all the time and love it. It''s gentle and contains natural ingredients, but is very effective for diamonds -- I second the positive reviews about it!:

Thanks Wink! I took a quick look at the video -- have to finish watching it later, but it looks great and is so helpful! I''ll have to check out the other informational videos too.Date: 4/21/2008 10:14:01 AM

That is a great product, but they are doing you a disservice to offer you only the liquid. You should have both the liquid and the paste to do it right.
If you go here: http://vyou.pricescope.com/player.aspx
you will find a list of presentations that were made with the cluein software some time ago. From 3/29/07 you will find a video on cleaning using both of these products.
There are a lot of very wonderful and informational videos there from John Quixote, Brian Gavin and myself. Many of your questions are answered there in great detail.

i think i crossed my wires...i know i've been told to take off diamond jewelry before household cleaning as the cleaning products themselves may have adverse affects to the stone. i guess i just wanted to make sure that cleaning the stone itself doesn't have the same affect.
Actually that pack is the concentrate to make a new bottle of solution, it is how we ship out our refills as it is much cheaper to ship than a jar of liquid because of the weight.Date: 4/21/2008 3:16:55 PM

Too bad Gemcare doesn''t have the paste available over Amazon, but they''re offering this gel in concentrated form to go in the solution. Do you have any thoughts on this product?

Chlorine will eat at the alloys in the gold, the silver and the nickel, resulting in weak prongs and disappearing diamonds, for which the jeweler is often blamed. Sigh.Date: 4/21/2008 3:21:15 PM

It is the cleaning PRODUCTS that can affect the metal on your ring (not really the diamonds), not the act of cleaning itself. And this is mostly a worry with chlorine or ammonia and white gold. Platinum is fine usually, but it always a better idea to take it off.
Cleaning your ring daily will just make it sparkly and shiny!
And just to add to Honey's post...an US does not need to be used with ammonia. You can just use dish soap in it, so just because you have WG is no reason NOT to use an US.
Thanks for the response, and good advice all around Wink!Actually that pack is the concentrate to make a new bottle of solution, it is how we ship out our refills as it is much cheaper to ship than a jar of liquid because of the weight.
Actually the paste is there, but it is priced separately and not being sold as a kit, which is less expensive than buying both together. There are probably several of the vendors here who can supply you with the kit.

Sheila, my assistant, has spent twenty or more hours in the past couple of weeks researching the proper care and cleaning of jewelry and as soon as she is finished writing her results in condensed versions our shipping department will be adding the proper slip into each piece of jewelry that goes out. LOL! There is a very good chance.

Ammonia eats away at some of the alloys in WG...but how long does it take? Will the 5 minute spin in the US with a solution containing ammonia (Windex) really have a negative effect? I have tried it with just soap but the result is not at good. To further complicate matters, the WG is a pendent from a mall store so who knows how high the quality is in the first place.
On another note, the plat e-ring looks sweet when it comes out of its bath.
